This national guidance promotes a consistent and inclusive approach to preventing and responding to bullying, including prejudice-based bullying, and provides guidance on recording and monitoring incidents. It also supports schools to create respectful and inclusive learning environments where all children and young people feel valued and able to thrive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Respect for All aims to ensure that all sectors and communities, who work with, or care for, children and young people at a national and local level, are consistently and coherently contributing to a holistic approach to anti-bullying, regardless of the type of bullying. This includes an explicit commitment to addressing prejudice-based bullying. Central to this, Respect for All is underpinned by the values of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fairness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Respect<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Equality<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inclusion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We also acknowledge <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unicef.org\/child-rights-convention\/convention-text-childrens-version\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child<\/strong><\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) has been incorporated into Scots law. Schools have a responsibility to uphold children&#8217;s rights and ensure that children and young people are heard, respected and included and actively involved in decisions which affect them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>And, <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/media\/5a798cf6ed915d042206950e\/easy-read.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>The Equality Act 2010<\/strong><\/a> that places a duty on schools to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct prohibited by the Act.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Equality Act 2010 put legislation in place to prevent direct or indirect discrimination against persons due to their:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Age<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Disability<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sex (Gender)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gender reassignment (Transgender)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marriage and civil partnership<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pregnancy and maternity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Race<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Religion or belief<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sexual orientation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Dumfries and Galloway Council\u2019s priorities also place every child\u2019s wellbeing at the centre. This will vary, depending on the individual circumstances and the changes\/actions identified. However, exclusion should not be regarded as a punishment, but instead be an opportunity to make changes that will improve the educational experience for your child and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also believe that Parents and Carers and staff have the same rights to be heard, understood and respected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Occasionally the behaviour or actions of individuals in contact with us may be seen as vexatious or unacceptable.
