Secondary Subject Information
All Schools produce their own subject information. This information will be included in your secondary school handbook and will also provide information on subject choices. Please contact your school about the curriculum offer and the subject choices.
DG Schools Connect

DG Schools Connect is our digital school offer for session 2025-26. Starting in June 2025 this will bring increased option choices to S5 and S6 secondary learners across Dumfries and Galloway. Many of our learners are educated in rural and remote schools and many of our schools are also very small with less than 400 learners. This makes it difficult to ensure a wide and equitable range of subject offers in the Senior Phase.
In common with many local authorities across Scotland we are now able to offer access to a wide range of subjects through live online classes delivered by teachers in our schools.
All secondary schools in Dumfries and Galloway have now aligned their school timetable structures to make this a real possibility. DG Schools Connect is a live delivery, with a teacher planning, delivering and assessing learning. It offers a range of courses which may not have been available to learners previously in their own schools.
S5 and S6 learners are able to engage in a range of opportunities, including Higher and Advanced Higher qualifications, Foundation Apprenticeships and music awards.
This will enhance their learner pathways. Participation in the programme will also ensure young people have the opportunity to develop essential digital skills required for learning, life and work.
For further information on DG Schools Connect please see DG Schools Connect.
Foundation Apprenticeships
A Foundation Apprenticeship is a qualification that allows young people to learn new knowledge whilst developing new skills that are essential for the workplace. With a Level 6, FA students will gain a qualification equivalent to a Higher plus get hands-on experience in a real-life work environment. With a Level 4 and 5 skills are developed in school. FA’s can be taken over 1 or 2 years as part of their senior phase at school.
