Nursery and Primary Sports Day 2017

Another epic Primary and Nursery Sports Day!

An amazing effort from ALL pupils was shown today, you are a fantastic example of resilience and team spirit.

🏆An extra special well done to 2017 House Champions – Milton and to Jessica and Jay for being 2017’s Sports Champions…you deserve it! 🏆

The pupils really seemed to enjoy the new addition, the Healthy, Active and Included Podium. What did you think?

Thank you on behalf of all the staff to the Parents, Carers and family friends who turned up to the family picnic and to support all our brilliant sports champs. There was a really fun and supportive atmosphere throughout the day.

Until next year, for even more clapping, cheering and encouragement.

Well done Milton!

Lost Property

Once again, we have a large amount of unclaimed items of clothing in school. They don’t have names in them, so we can’t return them to their owner.

If your child is missing any items, please feel free to call in, after 3.25pm, to have a look in the Lost Property cupboard and ‘Lost Property Mountain’, in the Primary Entrance.

As in previous years, any unclaimed items, will be taken to the charity shop during the last week of term.

Bee at Threave!

Yesterday primary one and two had a wonderful time at Threave Gardens learning all about Bees and Minibeasts.

In the morning we split into groups and got the chance to hunt for mini-beasts and to learn all about bees and honey from a real beekeeper! We saw a giant Bee hotel, tasted fresh Threve honey and discovered why a queen bee is important. The mini-beast hunters found many millipedes, slugs and a frog in the woods.

The weather was lovely allowing us to enjoy lunch outside lots of time to play in the park and walk  in the beautiful gardens.

Pitch, Pulse Magic

Last Thursday, Primary 5 and 6 pupils took part in the third and final part of the Live Music Now initiative. For their ‘Magic’ session, pupils were luckily enough to listen to and respond to music played on the piano and flute.

The children were encouraged to listen closely to their music and think about the part music plays in developing feelings in films and television programmes.

The children then took part in an activity to understand how the role of the conductor was vital in a musical performance.

Looking for patterns

Last Thursday, P5/6/7 took advantage of the lovely weather to investigate pattern in the school grounds. In maths, we have been learning about recognising, describing and continuing patterns. We began by revising what we knew about patterns using shapes and then moved on to investigating number patterns.

Last week, we finished this work, by learning about the Italian Mathematician, Fibonacci and his discovery of a repeating number pattern that can be seen in a spiral pattern which occurs in nature.

Footballer of the week – Izzy!

A huge congratulations to Izzy, who was awarded Footballer of The Week by Coach David. David said ‘Izzy thoroughly deserves the trophy for her outstanding goal keeper skills’.

The P3,4,5 class have decided to get her autograph for when she is signed as a Premiership footballer. Top class Izzy, well done!

Zoo Lab, Zuper!

Dalry Nursery, most of the Primary and Carsphairn pupils had a visit from a few strange creatures last week. Zoo Lab, a live animal handling workshop brought in a number of creepy crawlies and animals to show the pupils. Everyone had a great time looking and touching the animals (if they were brave enough!). The firm favourite was definitely the pygmy hedgehog, he was so cute and prickly! Miss Joss was over the moon to finally hold her favourite animal…ever!

P5/6 Champions!

Congratulations to the P5 and 6 pupils who took part in the Small Schools’ Sports Tournament this morning!

All the hard work; practicing in all weathers and commiting to the ‘gruelling’ training run by our very own coach and manager, David, has paid off! The players worked well as a team and showed some excellent skills and endurance.

YOU WON!
