Burns Lunch

This lunchtime we all enjoyed our annual Burns Lunch, organised and hosted by the P7 pupils. Over the past two weeks, they have planned, improved and practiced their speeches, learned poems and helped with the organisation of the meal. This hard work paid off, this afternoon, with a very successful lunch.

Ewan and Jay worked well as a team to Chair the Ceremony and make sure the guests knew what was happening.

Codie used her organisation skills well, to bring in the haggis and Jay reminded us of what a ‘Chieftain o the pudding race’ it was, in his clear recitation of the Address!

After saying The Selkirk Grace, everyone tucked into their Haggis, Neeps and Tatties.

Both Molly and Codie, helped us all learn a little more about the reason people, all over the world, celebrate Robert Burns’ life, in their Immortal Memory.

Then it was time for Conall and Josh to Toast the Lassies. Their speech caused quite a stir and a few red faces!

But the Lassies got their own back with their Reply to the Laddies; there were quite a few laughs at their expense!

After the speeches, the lunch was finished with a rousing rendition of Auld Lang Syne.

Once again, many thanks to everyone else who helped make our Burns’ Lunch such a success: Mrs Kirk and the kitchen staff, for the lovely food, P6 children for serving it and the P1-5 children who made the colourful, Scots’ themed, table mats!
