Friday was a fun day of right royal events! The whole school celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday with a variety of activities. First thing in the morning we all gathered to see a Power-point about the Royal family, this sparked very interesting questions and discussions. The pupils were intrigued to learn more about Trooping the Colour, a ceremony that marks the Queen’s Official Birthday, so we watched a small clip on You Tube.
Mrs Kirk our cook asked if we would make flags or crowns to wear during our Royal Tea Party, so we spent a part of the morning creating our royal accessories. We look very jazzy don’t we?!
After break it was then time for PE, military style! Miss Brown, who has been Navy trained, led our school in a Trooping the Colour style parade, she showed us how to get into different formations and ‘right-dress’ to line up correctly. It was great, but quite tricky to get lined up!
We then marched one lap of our Daily Mile around the pitch. Miss Brown, Mrs Devlin and Mrs Turner were pretending to be the Sergeant Majors marching alongside us! Jamie did not follow orders well and had to do 10 push-ups (he thought this was hilarious!). Miss Brown then showed us how to salute properly and taught us the Army salute and then the Navy salute.
We completed our fun Queen’s Birthday Celebration Day with a Tea Party lunch on the ‘lawn’ and a few traditional party games. The rain held off for us…just!
