P7 Burns Competition

For the last few weeks Primary 7 have been busy learning their extracts from Tam O’Shanter for the annual P7 Burns Competition.

The children have worked extremely hard to learn the pieces, as well as applying their drama skills, using facial expressions and actions, to retell the story.
They were also challenged with choosing a scene from the poem to collage. The children used a variety of materials to create some wonderful finished pieces, which can be seen below.

To mark the final months in our current building we will be hosting two events to mark and recognise the history of Dalbeattie Primary school on its current site.

On Saturday 20th May, there will be one final doors open day which will take place in both the upper and lower school buildings. Visitors are welcome to visit Dalbeattie Primary School to reminisce, share memories and view the school as it is today. Doors will open at 10a.m and close at 3p.m . At 12 mid-day, we would like as many people as possible who have been pupils  and staff at Dalbeattie Primary School (or indeed, the High School pre 1958) to join us in front of the bell tower for a large group photograph to mark the event.  It may even get us into the Record books for the most former pupils and staff in a picture SO KEEP THE DATE! However, all friends, members of the school and wider local community are welcome to visit the buildings at any point during the day.

Our second event is for current and former staff. We will also be hosting an afternoon tea for former staff (teaching and non-teaching) on Wednesday 7th June 3:30-5pm. The event is a social gathering to welcome former staff to the school for one final look round the old granite buildings before we progress to our new learning campus in October 2017. Any former staff interested in joining current staff for the this event should contact the school office either by phone or email – 01556611597 or gw08officedalbeatti2@ea.dumgal.sch.uk

Consultation on Existing Primary School

Recently, pupils have been taking part in a consultation about possible future uses of our current school site. School Pupil Councillors collated the information from written questionnaire sheets, which were filled in by children of all ages though-out the school. The School Pupil Council then met with Michelle McRobert of Dalbeattie Community Initiative to discuss some of the issues in more detail. Lots of ideas were taken aware from the meeting…… pupilsworking-on-questionnaires-for-curent-school-use-jan-2017 pupil-council-and-dci-25-1-17

Gymnastics Teams

gymnasts

Gymnasts who took part in the Regional Schools Gymnastics Competition last weekend performed their floor routines for the whole school at assembly today. The children were all fantastic and show cased their skills extremely well. Miss Niven our Active School Co-ordinator and gymnastics coach joined us for the event and handed out certificates to all gymnasts. We would like to say a huge thank you to Mr Niven from Niven Haulage in Palnackie  for sponsoring and  supporting us in purchasing additional  leotards for the teams.
