Wee Minds Matter – Infant Mental Health  – Dumfries & Galloway Health & Social Care

Address:

Psychology Department, Mountainhall Treatment Centre, Bankend Road, Dumfries DG1 2AP

Who the service is aimed at:

The service is available for infants from birth to 3rd birthday who are exhibiting signs of infant mental health difficulties or where there are concerns about the carer-infant relationship.

Support provided:

We offer consultation and training to professionals to aid them in better understanding and supporting the families they work with.

We work directly with families either individually or in groups to offer assessment and strengths-based interventions. This may be about increasing parental confidence, improving the carer-infant relationship or increasing reflective parenting.

Age range:

From 0 to 3rd birthday

Area covered:

All Dumfries and Galloway

Can an individual access the service directly, or do they need to be referred to it by another service – like a school, social worker, health practitioner for example?

The service does NOT accept self-referrals.  Individuals must be referred by another service.

How to make a referral:

By using a Request for Assistance

Top tips for making a ‘good’ referral (if applicable):

We accept referrals for Infants (not parents) we therefore require the infant’s full name and date of birth. We want to understand how the infant is presenting or being affected by the current situation. The more the referrer can say about their direct observations of the infant the better.

What needs to be in place before a referral is accepted (for example a Child’s Plan)?

That the health Visitor has been informed of the referral.

Is there a charge/fee for this service?

No

If there is a charge/fee, is there funding available for this?

N/A
