Who the service is aimed at: 

We see all children and young people so our service is available to everyone.

Support provided: 

We provide Oral health support for children/young people and their families, covering:

  • Toothbrushing instruction
  • Oral Health instruction
  • Dental appointment support
  • Acclimatisation
  • Diet

We can provide children/young people and their families with oral health resources such as:

  • Toothbrushing packs
  • Leaflets
  • Take home resources ie toothbrushing charts, food diaries.

We can accompany our referrals to their Dental appointments if they have a fear of the Dentist and help to arrange their appointments if registered.

We have an acclimatisation clinic based within Dumfries Dental Centre to support anyone who has never attended a Dentist or has a fear, where they will see what a Dental surgery looks like and some of the equipment used.

We offer oral health support within schools and nurseries ie toothbrushing in schools and providing all equipment

  • Offer oral health sessions with classes covering any oral health topics.
  • Provide Fluoride Varnish application, twice a year, to targeted schools within Dumfries and Galloway.

For Oral health support, our Dental Health Officers can meet families in their home setting/schools or medical centres to accommodate and provide 1:1 support as often as required.

All children and young people aged up to 18

All Dumfries and Galloway

Can an individual access the service directly, or do they need to be referred to it by another service – like a school, social worker, health practitioner for example? 

Individuals can self-refer, or another service can make a referral.

How to make a referral:

We have our own referral form which is specific to our service.  Individuals can initially contact the service for a telephone conversation on 01387 272762, or contact the service by email.  Other services can refer a child/young person by contacting us for a referral form.
