Who the service is aimed at

The Social Work Resettlement Support Team operates as a generic social work service undertaking statutory duties and responsibilities to assess need, manage risk and provide information, guidance and support where necessary.

The Social Work Resettlement Support Service works with vulnerable children, young people, adults and families that are on the Syrian and Afghan resettlement schemes, Ukrainian Guests in the community and in hotel accommodation and Asylum Seekers in the community and hotel accommodation throughout Dumfries and Galloway.

The team also undertake Sponsor Suitability Assessments for those who care for those Ukrainian Unaccompanied Minors who have come to live in Scotland without their parents or legal guardians.

The Social Work Resettlement Support Team remit covers undertaking work with any child, young person, adult or family that does not have settled status to reside in Britain or does not have recourse to public funds.

The team has developed a level of expertise in working with those vulnerable groups who need support to begin their new lives in Dumfries and Galloway.

We can support those who need to seek advice by directing to other services.

Support provided: 

The team consists of Social Workers and Social Work Assistants who undertake needs assessments that inform required interventions.

  • Undertake direct work with families to support their integration into local communities , education, Housing, Health.
  • Undertake Child in Need assessments following the Signs of Safety model of practice promoting Child and Young peoples Health, Safety and Wellbeing.
  • Support with parenting and family routines.
  • Support with accessing childcare.
  • Support parents in their capacity to parent.
  • Support those adapting to the different cultural norms in Dumfries and Galloway by promoting Independence and Integration.
