Our Weekly School News – Sharing our Learning with the School Community.

There are links below to the Social Media platforms that some of our classes have chosen to try out this session. Many of the posts and tweets are also shared on our school website.

Please have a read and a chat together at home about what we have been up to this week.

Primary 1a and 1b

We can’t quite believe it’s the end of our first term at school already! What a lot we have learned.

This week we have been able to get outside quite a lot and have been having lots of fun using the mud kitchens on the veranda and building dens and obstacle courses using the tyres.
In PE we learned another new game called Sharks!! Miss Conacher and Mrs Baird were our catchers but they only managed to catch 7 of us!! Next time maybe we will try to catch them. All the PE activities we have done this term have been helping us to become good listeners and to learn about following the rules and staying safe and we are pretty good at this now.

We have been talking about our pets in class- we can’t believe how many we all have!! The most popular pet in Mrs Baird’s class is a dog, but we were excited to hear about G’s tortoise Hamish and her 7 hens, and also S’s chinchilla which we think is quite small. Miss Conacher’s class had 8 different types of pet – we are really curious about whether there is really an alligator living somewhere in Castle Douglas though!

We have all been working really hard on our letter and number formations to make sure we are learning to write each one correctly. This is quite challenging for lots of us, and any reinforcement at home is always appreciated.

Well done to everyone for all the hard work on their first 6 sounds and reading key words- we look forward to building on these next term with more exciting stories, games and activities.

Have a relaxing and safe holiday.

Reminders
Flu vaccinations first week back – Wednesday 28th
Halloween dressing up day on Friday 30th ( this will probably be after our Nature Garden session in the morning, but we will confirm details the first week back)
Halloween Craft competition- if your child wanted to have a go at this in the holidays they will have a note from the Hare house captains in their bag.

 Primary 2

It has been such a busy term and I can’t believe it is the holidays already. Thank you to everyone for trying their best and completing some super work. Well done P2.

In Maths we have been learning about pattern this week. We looked at repeating patterns and everyone created their own patterns using shapes and colours. We have worked hard and our patterns were great.

In Language we are continuing to learn about the alphabet and we were doing further work on matching capital and lower-case letters. We also were trying really hard to form our letters correctly in handwriting. We all wrote j and l correctly and they were all sitting on the line. Well done everyone.

We have also done lots of work this week on how different emotions make us feel. We talked about different scenes and we had to use our faces to show how we were feeling. We are really good at showing our feelings using our faces.

I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable holiday.

 Reminders

Flu vaccinations first week back on Wednesday 28th October.
There will be a Halloween Art Competition where the children can design their own Halloween creature if they want to during the holidays. Please return your design to school after the holidays with your name and class on it.
Halloween – The children can come dressed up in their costumes if they want to on Friday 30th October. This means there will be no Nature Garden or PE on that day.

 Primary 2/3

I can’t believe that this the end of term already. We have all worked well together and settled into our new classroom and our routines. All the children have worked very hard and completed some super work.

In language we have enjoyed building a description (story) each week and this week’s was about a spotty dog. We have been learning some new ways to practise our spelling at home and these will be on a new Spelling Spider after the holidays.

In topic this week we had lots of discussion about the books we read using the 5 cog model from Emotion works. We are good and recognising the different behaviours and triggers for the events in the stories.

In art we used chalk pastels to create some autumnal leaf pictures. It was very messy but great fun and the children’s work looks fabulous.

I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable holiday

 Primary 4

P4 have had a super last week of term. In the nature garden we built birds’ nests with a partner. To make it extra challenging we could only use one hand, just like a bird uses its beak. For art this week we continued to practice our printing skills, this time using bubble wrap to create autumnal trees. We chose to use red, brown, orange, yellow and gold paints for the leaves. Check out our photographs.

We read the story Mr Jelly, linking this to our Emotion Works topic. We showed how the Emotion Works ‘system’ works using words, drawings and symbols. Mr Jelly’s reactions made us laugh, providing a fun way of talking and learning about fears and regulation strategies.

For maths this week, groups have been using split strategy to regroup, doubles and partitioning. We also looked at division to share equally, recognising it as the inverse of multiplication. We learned that number families can be used to make different division and multiplication sentences.

Out on the MUGA we have been playing team building and playground games.

In ICT we are working through BBC Dance Mat Typing to develop our touch-typing skills. We are improving our typing speed. We started with our home row keys.

Reminders
Nature garden will continue on Monday afternoons.
P.E will continue outdoors every Wednesday and Thursday.
