Our Weekly School News – Sharing our learning with the School Community.

Please have a read and a chat together about what we have been up to this week.

Dance Competition

Several of our older pupils have been busy over the past few weeks creating their own dance routines which they shared with other schools at a competition on Tuesday. The dance groups were highly commended for their creativity and team work.

Primary 1a and 1b

What a busy week we have had in Primary One!!

We had a lovely trip to Castle Douglas Church on Monday where we saw all the beautiful Christmas trees from our community and looked at all our school’s art work. We were also able to take part in hearing and re-telling the Christmas Story which was very special. There was just time for juice and a treat before we headed back to school.

On Tuesday we were super-excited as it was our Christmas show. We really enjoyed performing to our friends and family, and it was lovely to see so many people in the audience despite the dreadful weather. Our teachers are very proud of how well we sang!

On Wednesday we had fun in class with some different Christmas activities – we do love a bit of glitter!!

On Thursday we had another busy day as we all got to go and see the Nursery show which was amazing! Lots of us remembered when we were at the Nursery and took part in this last year. We also had our school Christmas lunch which was yummy!

On Friday we had our last visit to the Nature Garden before Christmas-some time for fun and games!!

Kai liked Santa’s Workshop because he liked acting out making toys.
Elliot liked Walking in the Snow because the head to toe action was funny.
Beth liked using the instruments because that was fun.
Darla enjoyed making the penguins and elves for the show.

In Topic we have been learning about the Water Cycle.
Brodie learned that the sun heats up the water.
Iris learned that dust and pollen are in the raindrops.
Eddie said that the clouds get full of water so it then rains, snows or there are hailstones.

Primary 4

In maths we are learning to recognise symmetrical pictures, patterns and shapes. We have taken part in a range of different Christmas activities to explore symmetry. Using pasta shapes, we completed a pattern with one line of symmetry. We then created a symmetrical picture using a mirror. We identified lines of symmetry in basic 2D shapes by cutting and folding. Finally, we drew our own pictures on a whiteboard showing where the line of symmetry would go. We had to use the words horizontal, vertical or diagonal.

This week we completed our report writing unit. We researched and wrote our reports about pets. P4 have also been working very hard to reach their accelerated reader targets. No reading or spelling homework will be given out next week.

We have been discussing and summarising the story of Excitable Edgar (2019 John Lewis Christmas Advert). We spoke about how his feelings change throughout the story. Everyone has their own unique quirks or abilities (something that makes us special) and we all can find a purpose for these skills. We thought about how we can use our skills to help others.
