Primary 1a and 1b

Christmas has come to Primary 1! We have been enjoying making different types of Christmas artwork, which can be seen in the hall at our concert! The paint, cotton wool and glitter has made an appearance and we’ve been having lots of fun!

We’ve been continuing to work on our sounds and how to form the letters correctly. We’ve also been recapping numbers to 10.

We’ve been enjoying lots of lovely Christmas stories. Thank you so much to all who came to our Storytime sessions!

Finally, we’ve been hard at work practising for the show and our dress rehearsal went really well! We can’t wait to perform for you all and put you in the Christmas spirit!

We will be visiting the church to see our artwork on Monday in the afternoon– any last minute helpers would still be appreciated!

Our Christmas Show is on Tuesday at either 2pm or 6pm. For the evening performance please make sure the children arrive at the classrooms at 5:30 for a 6pm start. As the children will be sent home in their party clothes, please ensure they return still wearing those clothes. Thank you!

Don’t forget we are hosting a Christmas Craft Afternoon on Wed 18th Dec at 2pm! We’d love to see you there!

 Primary 2/3

This week we have been busy rehearsing for our concert and our dress rehearsal in front of the school went really well. They were all stars!

We have also been doing lots of Christmas art to decorate the hall which is looking very festive.

Cara – “I liked when we went on stage with our party clothes”.

Hannah – “My favourite song is the Penguin Polka, I like doing the waddling”.

Kendyl – “I like doing the sleigh ride”.

Eva – “I liked when everyone joined in the sleigh ride song”.

Benjamin – “I liked when sang the songs my favourite is the elf song”.

Luke – “I like the Penguin polka because it is a funny penguin”.

Dorota – “I liked cutting and gluing to make the elf”.

Lola – “My favourite part was decorating the coat for the elf”.

Primary 3

This week, we have been using warm and cold colours to create snowmen artwork to decorate the school hall. We also enjoyed using different shades of colour to make our ‘Humble Donkey’ oil pastel pictures for Castle Douglas Parish Church. We are looking forward to seeing them when we visit next week.

In our writing activities, we are developing our skills in using adjectives to enhance our writing. We enjoyed watching the John Lewis ‘Excitable Edgar’ advert and we worked in groups to think of adjectives to describe him.

Rory – ‘He is clumsy because he knocked the fence down’.
Zoe – ‘Edgar is cute – he has big eyes.’
Abbie – ‘He was sad and embarrassed when he kept making mistakes.’

We then enjoyed creating our own dragons and thinking of adjectives to describe them.

We are so excited to share our Christmas Show ‘Prickly Hay’ with you next week. We have been singing, dancing and preparing for the performances.

Our ‘Prickly Hay’ Christmas Show is on Wed 11th at 2pm and 6pm. Please see the note that came home yesterday regarding arrangements for the performances.
There are still tickets available for the 2pm performance – please come along!
Church Visit – Thursday 12th December – please bring a waterproof jacket.

Primary 4

We have been creating some beautiful Christmas artwork. We have also been exploring 3D augmented reality to bring flat Christmas colouring pages to life. See the P4 video posted on this page.

In maths we have finished our Samson addition booklets. We have been focusing on number this week.

As part of our report writing we have been working on conclusions. We are going to write our reports in our writing sets next week.

In the hall we have been learning the military two step dance with P4/5 for our Christmas party. We have been working in partners, remembering the dance moves and keeping time to the music. We also tried out some of the party games will play. We have been taking part in some fitness circuits in teams. They have been challenging!

P4 got chance to watch two Christmas show dress rehearsals. Here’s what we thought about them:
“I liked joining in with the P1 and P1/2 songs, the actions were fun!” Coby.
“The children sang brilliant songs; they played their instruments very well” Harrie.
“I really enjoyed seeing all of the costumes” Connor.
“When they were signing their voices were very clear” Noah.

Wider Achievement
Milly has passed her highland dancing exams. Well done!
Morgan has been improving her fitness at her boxing club.
Amber, Nicole, Kahlen and Fallon went to their end of season football party and were awarded medals. Super!
Eilidh, Struan, Nicole, Amber, Emily-Rose, Elle and Mrs Teale took part in the NYCoS winter concert in Dumfries last night with over 60 other young singers. They performed enthusiastically and received a huge round of applause from the audience.

Monday 16th of December: P4 and P4/5 Christmas Party
Tuesday 17th of December: Christmas church service
Wednesday 18th of December: P4 and P4/5 church visit (stories and artwork)
Thursday 19th of December: P4 Christmas movie and hot chocolate morning (remember to bring your favourite mug or cup – marshmallows and cream provided!)

 Primary 4/5

The children in P4/5 have been busy learning about being healthy. They worked hard to plan and prepare a pop up smoothie bar, where they sold delicious fruit smoothies to the rest of the school. They would like to say a big thank you to Mitchell’s of Castle Douglas for donating all of the fruit and milk they required. Donations from Tesco and the Co-op were also very much appreciated. The children have learned lots about enterprise and running a small business.
