Class news

Primary 1

We built dinosaur dens in outdoor learning this week. We worked in small groups to build our dens using only the materials from the nature garden.

Ewan – “I liked getting food to put inside the dinosaur house.”

Kahlen – “We had to share the sticks.”

Noah – “I used leaves to make the bed.”

Well done to Milly who is our new pupil of the month.

Primary 1/2

For World Book Day on Thursday, we all brought in our favourite book to share with the class. We were developing our listening and talking skills as well as trying to ask different questions about the plot, characters and setting.

Primary 2b

This week we have been learning about Healthy Eating with Mrs DeSilva. We sorted foods into different groups.

We designed and made weather symbol posters in pairs. We had to make the posters easy to read and colourful.

For World Book Day we read ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ and made wild thing masks.

Alex – “My Wild Thing is called Scary the Hairy Canary”.

Charlie got a rosette at Horse Riding.

 

Primary 3a

This week we carried out an experiment to see what surfaces had the most and least friction. We have also started to learn about division and all have been very successful when dividing by two.

This week we also went into the playground and used any materials we could find to make our representations of the Iron Man as we have began to read the book to go with our topic.

We started reading a new class novel The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. Our new topic is forces and magnetism.  We are learning our 10 times table.

 

Primary 4/5

Catrina – “I learned tennis skills in PE.”

Harris – “I enjoyed making Mardi Gras masks with Miss Gainford.”

Jaimie-Leigh – “I’ve learned about fractions. I know about quarters and halves.”

Primary 5/6

We have been interviewing suspects for our murder mystery. We think a lot of the evidence is pointing towards Mrs Green but further science investigation will tell us more.

We have been learning about Shrove Tuesday and a group made us pancakes during Golden Time. They were yummy!

Harry and Casey took part in Cross Country this week. They both did very well.  We wish Caitlin all the best for her first performance of Oliver on Saturday.

Primary 6

This week we had our Pupil v’s Teachers football match, bake sale and sewing stall. We raised £287.41 for Carlingwark House.

We have been learning how to find a percentage of an amount – this has been challenging, but it is good fun.

The story we are reading is getting very exciting – we have been reading the Street Child.

18 pupils from P6 took part in the Cross Country race and did really well.

 

Primary 6/7

We have had Rugby coaching from the Stewartry Rugby Development Officer. This will continue for the next 3 weeks.Congratulations to all P6/7’s that went to the Cross Country festival.
In Maths we have been learning how to calculate distances if given time and speed.
In Art we have been drawing our own World War 2 characters.

Primary 7

P7 pupils have been very busy creating and performing Bollywood dances. Jack says “It was fun learning some Indian dance moves.”
We enjoyed improving our Rugby skills in the first of four sessions with John Muir on Thursday. Star says “We created a big wall to stop the others getting through.”
We brought our favourite books to school for World Book Day and took part in some activities. Molly M says “We made some really cool and colourful bookmarks.”
Well done to all the boys and girls who took part in Cross Country – Ruby 2nd, Anna 3rd and Charlie 2nd.

A reminder for the children attending Oliver to please return as soon as possible your permissions slip to Mr Whan. Thank you

P1/2 – Please can all children ensure they have PE Kit at school.

P6 – Friday 10th March at 9:15am Class Assembly

P7 – Rugby kits for the MUGA on Thursday. Project books in for Thursday.  Half way check up.  National Sumdog Competition runs until Thursday.  Log in and have a go!
