Carsphairn Hill Walk

1 This is us at the start of our hill walk. We are standing next to the river which runs beside Carsphairn. Here we are listening to Mr Tyson’s instructions.

 

 

2 Right at the very start of our walk we faced a huge challenge! We had to get through really boggy ground. We all got soaked! Neil got stuck!!

 

 3 We stopped at a Grouse Butt where people would shoot from. There were lots around here.

 

 4 This was the steepest part of our day. It was really tough and tiring. Here we started to find Mary Queen of Scots old path she would have travelled on. You can see this in the picture.

 

5 Here we carried out a Line Search. Mr Tyson showed us this as they do this in the Mountain Rescue. Our job was to search for old stones from Mary Queen of Scots time and by doing it in a line, we wouldn’t walk by them.

 

 6 This an old Celtic cross, most likely used during the time of Mary Queen of Scots.

 

 7 We were now on our way to the woods and beginning another tricky part of the walk. It was much flatter now but still really boggy!

 

 

8 The woods were in half and between them we followed the path used by wood lorries. This was mostly downhill and nice to walk on. We lost the old path at this point though.

 

 

9 Going through the woods was tricky but good fun. We followed this wall that might have been used many years ago to split land up. It was quite misty now.

 

 10 After the woods we arrived at the old village of Polmaddy. There are lots of ruins of old buildings.

 

 11We were standing in an old house. We lined up side to side to see how wide the building was compared to our classroom. It wasn’t a big house to live in at all.

 

 12 This was an old inn where Robert the Bruce is said to have hid in.

 

 13 Carla found Robert the Bruce’s old gold! Amazing that it was in a Tesco bag and spelt M.C.V.I.T.T.I.E.S!!!
