Schools and settings can request support for their learners from the assistive technology support working group. The group is made up of three Principal Teachers Additional Support for Learning, a Depute Head Teacher of a specialist secondary, and the Schools’ ICT Development Officer.
To make a request for support, please email assistivetechnologysupport@dumgal.gov.uk, providing the following information:
- Learner name
- Date of birth
- School year
- Brief overview of technology needs
- Details of technologies currently in use or tried

The process
When a request is received it is reviewed by the ICT Development Officer who will contact the school within 5 working days to provide support.
This may be an offer of training, technology to try with your learner, signposting to resources or other agencies, or you may be invited to an initial consultation via a Microsoft Teams call to discuss the request further.

During the consultation, discussions will be centred around identify the support required, and what has already been tried and tested by the school.
Next Steps:
- the school will be provided with training, guidance and/or resources, or
- the request is progressed to the Assistive Technology Support working group for further consideration.

The Assistive Technology Support working group meet every 4 – 6 weeks to review all requests for support, and discuss those assigned to them for their specialist knowledge.
Next Steps:
- the school will be provided with training, guidance and/or resources, or
- the request is progressed for consideration by other services, which may include NHS, CALL Scotland, or other specialist organisations.
