On Monday 26th March the Primary 1-3 class were given an exclusive performance from the P4-7 class, show casing all the songs they had learned from Eva during their Feis Rois sessions. There was a mixture of Gaelic and English songs with lots of actions fro the younger children to join in with. The children performed with enthusiasm and were very entertaining. The P1-3 class had a fantastic time.
Glasgow Science Centre
Last Friday 16th March the whole school had a fantastic day at the Glasgow Science Centre. P1-3 enjoyed a great workshop all about the International Space Station and the P4-7 saw a wonderful show about Earth in the IMAX Theatre. The GSC is a hands on science experience and the children took every opportunity to learn about energy and the human body through active participation. The Kells children did themselves proud by behaving beautifully and being respectful of others at the Centre. Well done Kells.
P1-3 Star Gazing
P1-3 children at Kells have been learning all about our solar system. They learned how to use a sun spotter to look safely at the sun and were amazed at how fast the sun appeared to move across the spotter. They were able to talk about how this movement was actually the rotation of the Earth.
They also spent many weeks making paper Mache planets. They wrapped paper and glue around balloons in 3 layers, then painted and decorated these to look like the planets. They made their own labels for each planet on the computer and have hung them in our corridor in their correct order.
Burns Lunch
Kells held their annual Burns Lunch on Friday 23rd of February. Once again the children did themselves proud by delivering a very personal and humorous take on a traditional Burns Supper. The Master of Ceremonies was Ruby, who kept every thing running smoothly. Many thanks to Ian Wemyss who played the bagpipes for the event.
Scots Verse competition at Kells
Kells Primary held their annual Scots Verse Competition on Wednesday 21st February. Once again Mike Duguid came to adjudicate for us, for which we a very thankful for his time. He has supported the school for 10 years now and we hope he will continue to do so in the future.
We are also thankful to Heather MacIntosh, who comes to school on a regular basis to help children with their Scots Verse.
All the children learned a Scots verse of their choosing and had to stand in front of the whole school to deliver their poem. They all did very well, with staff being very proud of each and every child.

Sports Hall Athletics
The children who participated in the Active Schools Sports Hall Athletics in December were awarded a participation certificate last week. The children enjoyed their time at the event, where they had to run, jump and throw to gain points as a team. They worked together well, encouraging their team mates to do the best they could. Well done team!
1918 dress Up Day
On the 9th of February the children of Kells dressed up as characters from 1918. Poppy Scotland has launched a nationwide fundraising campaign, which the Glenken schools have signed up for. It is hoped that each group registered will raise £1918 throughout  this very important centennial year, to help improve the lives of ex-services men and women.
Ms Keron joined us in the afternoon to talk about the 100 year anniversary of the Suffragettes. The children were very engaged and came up with some good suggestions on how to have an equal voice for all. Many thanks to Ms Keron for her time and stunning Suffragette costume.
Shared Reading
Last week the P1-3 class had a visit from Dante, who usually stays in the P4-7 class. He wanted to read the children a story. The children listened attentively, loving the change of teacher for a short time. Dante did a great job of delivering the story and hopes to come back again.
P1-3 visit Carsphairn for Global Play Day
The 6th February began as a snowy day, but that did not stop the enthusiastic children from P1-3 jumping on a bus to visit the children of Carsphairn school. The occasion was to celebrate Global Play Day. The children from both schools had a great day of unstructured play. The children decided to paint, make models, create collages, become a musical band, pretend to be knights and pirates, build and paint a stage in the playground, be train drivers, paint in the snow and generally have the best time they could have. Many thanks to Carsphairn for inviting us to join them. Some lovely friendships were developed between children of the two schools, that we hope to continue and foster over the next few months.
Snow Fun at Kells
No ordinary snowmen for the Children of Kells, New Galloway. The children worked together to make a snow T-Rex, with a huge bite and a spiky tail. They also made a slide for the all the children to enjoy. They are all looking forward to the next snowy day!
