P3-7

We’ve been learning how to play the tin whistle!  We have learned some familiar tunes, such as Three Blind Mice, Mary had a Little Lamb and The Grand Old Duke of York.  We were all very good at playing the tin whistle and had lots of fun!

We have been having so much fun in maths.  We went outdoors to help us learn subtraction, division and our times tables.

This page will share work, photographs and details of what is happening in P3-7 class.

Our teacher is called Miss O’Hara and she works really hard to make sure we have a fun time at school learning lots. We are studying the local area this term starting with map work which is really interesting.

We’ve learned about four different types of maps: road maps, physical maps, political maps and topographic maps.  Ask us a question about these maps and we’ll be able to tell you lots of fun facts!  We’ve also studied a map of our local area and pinpointed our homes on the map!  We also looked for our houses on Google Maps.  It was lots of fun!

This week, we have started our new scottish topic. We have learned quite alot already. In art, we have made some lovely scottish dancers. We made them look like they are wearing a kilt and everyone really enjoyed making them. They are displayed on our wall in the class room. Hope you can come in one day and see them!

We are looking forward to visiting Burns’ house and other places of interest in Dumfries next month. It will be great to step back in time and find out about life in Scotland in the times of Burns.

We started our new topic in science this week, Forces. We started with push and pull forces and carried out a little investigation using a toy car.

3.12.12

This week P3-7 all became advent angels. We decided it was a good idea to think of others during advent so we wrote some advent promises that would help ourselves, our families and the world. As well as that we also took a name each and became angels to that person. We have to do kind deeds without the person guessing who their angel is. Mrs Anderson is an angel too. We will guess who our angels are on the last day of term.

We have been making props for the Christmas show which is coming along well. I don’t want to spoil the fun so I won’t tell you what we have made! Make sure you buy your tickets when the letter comes out later in the week.

This week we started our Lego technology lessons. Our challenge was to build a crocodile that could open and shut its mouth. The photos below show us busy with our models.  When we were finished we used a USB connection to programme them through the computer. P1/2 came to see and were really impressed.

Ms Carmichael is off absent so Mr Barbour will be joining the school teaching us on a Thursday and a Friday.

Mrs Smith has been working with us to produce a fantastic programme for the concert. As part of our writing lessons we are studying functional writing and using this to produce a programme to sell on the night. Autumn is the managing director and is keeping us all on our toes!! Make sure you buy one at the concert.

P.S I was wondering how to keep in touch on glow because apparently your email address seems to not work any more Mrs Anderson. Would it be ok to use the email address you provide on the newsletters?
