Today we all dressed as a colour explosion to raise money for Comic Relief.\u00a0 The children enjoyed a variety of silly activities in the garden such as ducking for red balls, pin the red nose on the Nursery Team, face painting and decorating biscuits.\u00a0 They had a ball with one child even commenting “Red nose day is my absolute favourite day of Nursery!”<\/p>\n

Today we had a visit from the Police.\u00a0 The children enjoyed listening to and answering questions on the role of the police, how we can alert the police should we need to and how best to stay safe.\u00a0 They also enjoyed exploring the police uniform and kit before going outside to visit the car.\u00a0 Once out the Police officers shared the types of equipment they kept in the car and why they would use each.\u00a0 The children then explored the car which of course meant an opportunity to sound the horn and put on the sirens.<\/p>\n Thanks again to Chloe and Amy and look out for the police pop up kids arriving after the Easter break to further share messages of safety with our families.<\/p>\n Our Nursery pupil council group have been discussing their Rights. On Monday we discussed the right to live in a safe and clean environment. This led to a beach and park clean, collecting 53 bits of rubbish. The group then shared their findings with staff and peers and asked their peers to join in with the task of collecting rubbish, so we live in a safe environment. Today, the group led peers round the garden explaining how to use the equipment and talking about the importance of keeping our space clean. Some children enjoyed taking part in the challenge and we will continue to encourage the children to consider ways in which they can play their part in looking after their environment.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Stay and Play week<\/p>\n Wow what a busy week we have had for Stay and Play! We had so many parents and grandparents coming to join us to play. Thank you for coming and we hope you all enjoyed sharing all the nursery has to offer with your child and catching up on all the wonderful achievements they have made to date.\u00a0 Please check the big Books and children’s learning journeys for many more photographs.<\/p>\n We would also like to thank you for all your feedback and offers to share your expertise or hobbies with the children – we will be in touch soon.<\/p>\n Miss Jordan recently hosted a block of Fun Family Fridays.\u00a0 The families taking part experienced shopping and creating a snack week, science week, story and a craft and a Healthy Movers session.\u00a0 It was lovely to see so many families join us over the block and feedback states you have all taken some ideas to use at home.<\/p>\n The children have thoroughly enjoyed\u00a0 all the traditions of our Sheuchan Scottish week.\u00a0 They have been learning Scot’s poems to recite, a Scottish song, listened and danced to Scottish music and made traditional Scottish foods.\u00a0 Steven even brough in his chanter to perform for the children.\u00a0 Today we rounded the week off by joining the school on stage to perform our song Ally Bally Bee.\u00a0 This was followed by our poem competition winners Emma and Steven reciting their poems.\u00a0 A very big well done to them both we think they were really brave!\u00a0 Well done also to Lottie and Aden who won the family homework challenges from the Nursery, they were fantastic.<\/p>\n A very warm welcome back to all our families, we hope you have all had a fantastic Christmas break.<\/p>\n The team were delighted to see all the little faces and hear about all the wonderful activities the children got up to in their holidays.\u00a0 We are also delighted to have our new intake of children join us this term. The children and the team alike have very much enjoyed meeting you all over the last few days and have had so much fun!<\/p>\n Today was our annual Christmas service at the High Kirk.\u00a0 Our Pre-school children joined the primary in walking along to the church where they performed I’m a Little Robin.<\/p>\n Today a group of children walked in to town to visit Tesco and spread some Christmas cheer.\u00a0 They joined Sally to sing Christmas songs and enjoyed a walk round the store.\u00a0 They even came back to Nursery with some goodies!<\/p>\n Thank you to everyone who joined us in the hall today to watch the children perform.\u00a0 I am sure you will all agree they were fantastic!<\/p>\n Today was the Nursery Christmas Party.\u00a0 The children enjoyed musical bumps, four corners, pass the parcel and the best dancer.\u00a0 They then had a very special visitor from the North Pole who caused great excitement.<\/p>\n After a previous community walk where the children showed an interest in a Postman out delivering letters there were lots of questions as to his role.\u00a0 We had a good discussion in Nursery then a small group decided they would like to send something home.\u00a0 As it was Christmas time the children set about creating cards, went off to buy stamps and posted their cards.\u00a0 Please look out for them coming through the door.<\/p>\n On Tuesday a group of Primary 1 and Nursery children visited Millburn Court.\u00a0 There they sang Christmas songs to the residents who thoroughly enjoyed their performance.<\/p>\n Today Miss Jordan held her final Bookbug session of the year.\u00a0 It was a Christmas theme and the families enjoyed a variety of Chrimassy songs and rhymes.\u00a0 This was followed by a story and a sensory song.<\/p>\n Thank you to all our families who have joined us these last two terms, we look forward to welcoming you back in the New Year.<\/p>\n Today a group of children walked along to the library to participate in some festive activities.\u00a0 There they enjoyed a festive scavenger hunt around the Library, colouring in, duplo and large games.\u00a0 They ended their visit joining children from Park Nursery on the carpet to be read a Christmas story.\u00a0 We would like to thank Sarah at the Library again for inviting us along and reading to the children.<\/p>\n The Library has a fantastic area for children which has a great selection of books and activities on offer so do pop in if you have a spare minute.<\/p>\n After some discussions around poppies in the Nursery, some children explored the community to go on a poppy hunt. We started by walking down to the town centre where we spotted some window displays at the library and various shops, and a poppy display at the Castle Green. We looked at the different coloured poppies and discussed what the purple and red poppies meant. We then headed to Tesco where the children experienced choosing and purchasing their own snack and enjoyed eating it at The Castle Green before making our way back to the Nursery. Please see our Big Book of learning which will be on display in the foyer to see comments and learning from the children.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n After the children shared stories from their weekend and last night a discussion around the celebrations held on the 5th of November we decided to create our own bonfire in the Nursery Garden.\u00a0 The children gathered leaves to create their bonfire’s pyramid shape\u00a0 before making a large circle around it with chairs.\u00a0 They then enjoyed hot chocolate and chocolate sparklers that they had previously made that morning from bread sticks for snack.<\/p>\n The children enjoyed a fun filled day celebrating Halloween.\u00a0 They cam in dressed for the occasion and enjoyed a messy morning filled with slime and creepy crawlies.\u00a0 In the afternoon we participated in some Halloween traditions of dooking for apples, donuts on a string and a spooky dance.<\/p>\n We have hope everyone enjoys their evening guising! have fun!<\/p>\n Today we had two Nurses in to share their roles in the community and how they help people.\u00a0 The children listened well to Lauren who explained her role and the children asked some good questions.\u00a0 They then had an opportunity to dress up as nurses and explore some of the equipment including\u00a0 , syringes, bandages, testing oxygen levels, temperatures and stethoscopes.\u00a0 The ladies very kindly left some PPE behind for the children to wear during role play.<\/p>\n Thank you very much Lauren and Lucy, we hope you enjoyed the visit as much as we all did.<\/p>\n The children in Nursery have been busy baking with Mrs Quinn all week for their very own MacMillan coffee Morning.\u00a0 They baked banana loaf and chocolate tray bake which was served by a group of children who beautifully decorated and prepared the lunch hall.\u00a0 Thank you to all who donated both money and cakes for the School coffee morning.\u00a0 A total will be shared when all donations are in.<\/p>\n Today we had a visit from PC Walker and PC McCaig who very kindly brought their police car and equipment in for the children to explore.\u00a0 The also chatted with the children around ways in which they can seek help when needed and how to best stay safe.<\/p>\n Thank you to all the parents and grandparents that joined us today for our first stay and play session this year.\u00a0 The children enjoyed showing you all their favourite places to play and start our family challenge activity today.\u00a0 We look forward to welcoming more families across the week.<\/p>\n Today the children went out a walk to visit the site of Stranraer Oyster Festival where they were busy setting up for the weekend ahead.\u00a0 Before and during the walk we discussed how best to keep ourselves safe when out and about in the community, taking along SIMOA our safety elephant to remind us.<\/p>\n When we arrived at the festival site we were met by Sarah who toured us round the tents, explaining what would go on in each over the weekend.\u00a0 We then enjoyed a snack and a drink in the entertainment marquee where Justin from The Oyster Company met us.\u00a0 Justin allowed the children to have a good look at some Oysters freshly harvested from Loch Ryan and one child was brave enough to taste one!<\/p>\n Today we had our first visit of the year from the Lighthouse Musicians.\u00a0 They brought along a guitar and the bag pipes for us to enjoy.\u00a0 The highlight of the session for the children was a sensory scarf sing a long, as you can see we had a lot of smiles and giggles.<\/p>\n Thank you to all the families who joined us today for our first Bookbug session of the term.\u00a0 The session started with the string game to allow everyone to say their name and who was with them today.\u00a0 The families then listened to a story followed by the scarf hokey pokey interactive song.<\/p>\n The children have had a fantastic day settling in to Nursery.\u00a0 It was lovely to see all the families arriving this morning and the Nursery full once again.\u00a0 The children have all settled very well and have already began making friends and are becoming familiar with their surroundings and new routines.<\/p>\n Today the children moving into primary 1 at Sheuchan and the current P1 went on a trip to Coos and Ewes.\u00a0 There they experienced a tour of the Highland Coo’s, watched a sheep dog round up the Ewes and watched a Sheep being sheared.\u00a0 They enjoyed lunch in the sunshine followed by a play at New Luce Park.<\/p>\n We have lots of photographs from our trip, please ask a member of the team for an Ipad if you would like to have a look.<\/p>\n Today the children moving into primary 1 after the summer joined our school moving up day.\u00a0 The children spent the morning in primary one with Mrs Ferguson and Miss Jamieson completing a number of pirate activities before having lunch in the school dinner hall.<\/p>\n Today the children went off on the 2nd summer trip to Castle Kennedy Gardens.\u00a0 The children travelled by bus singing all the way there and back.\u00a0 At the gardens we enjoyed exploring in our groups, where the children thoroughly enjoyed the freedom to run and roll down the many hills.\u00a0 We then met back together for our picnic lunch before a visit to the wall garden.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Today the children went off on their summer trip to Castle Kennedy Gardens.\u00a0 The children travelled by bus singing all the way there and back.\u00a0 At the gardens we enjoyed exploring in our groups, where the children thoroughly enjoyed the freedom to run and roll down the many hills.\u00a0 We then met back together for our picnic lunch before a visit to the wall garden.<\/p>\n Today the children in Nursery enjoyed sports day with their families watching.\u00a0 The children ran a running race, egg and spoon race, beanbag race and a shopping race.\u00a0 The also thoroughly enjoyed cheering the mums and dads race on.<\/p>\n A big thank you must go to the children in Primary 6 who were a massive help setting up, supporting children and keeping them occupied while they waited between races.<\/p>\n Please check the Big Books and children’s Learning Journeys for more photos.<\/p>\n Today the Butterfly Room went down to the park and had a Teddy bears Picnic. The children listened to a story and enjoyed a yummy snack with Simoa our safety elephant. We then ventured onto the beach and built sandcastles and looked for lovely shells and stones. We had such a lovely morning!<\/span><\/p>\n Some of the children really enjoyed a visit from Megan and Angela from Childsmile today. Megan brought along her friend, Flossy to use as a visual to show the children how to brush their teeth correctly. The children showed a clear understanding of when and why we brush our teeth when\u00a0 asked. Megan and Angela also discussed different types of food that are good and not so good for our teeth.\u00a0 Some of the children took part in a small role play exercise of playing a dentist, dental nurse and patient, after the lady’s discussed with the children what happens when you go to the dentist, why you might go to the dentist and the different things you might see or feel while being there. The children were very excited to get a sticker at the end.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Today the children spent time with\u00a0 Miss Jamieson exploring the story Harry and his Dinosaurs goes to school.\u00a0 Following the story the children participated in a cut and stick exercise, a dinosaur small world,\u00a0 Dinosaur eggs pattern hunt and like Harry in the story created their own dinosaur name cards.\u00a0 These sessions have been a real success with all children becoming more and more relaxed in the classroom environment.<\/p>\n Today another group of children went to visit the new children’s area at Stranraer library and listen to a story session. After exploring the new cosy area, playing games including connect four and colouring, the children voted between a choice of three stories, before playing a game lead by the library staff. Lots of fun was had by all. Afterwards, we headed to the castle green to enjoy some snack in the sun before heading back to nursery.<\/span><\/p>\n During today’s session Mrs Fergusson read the children\u00a0 the story ‘We are going on a bear hunt’.\u00a0 They then headed outside into the playground to re create the story by travelling through the long wavy grass, the deep cold water, the oozy mud, the big dark forest, the snowstorm before finishing at the deep dark cave.\u00a0 There they found Big Ted who they carried all the way back to Primary 1.\u00a0 once back they had time to play in the classroom.<\/p>\n We look forward to returning next week where we will spend time with Miss Jamieson.<\/p>\n Today’s transition session commenced with the children listening to the story Stick Man.\u00a0 After some discussion they then headed outside to collect their very own sticks.\u00a0 Once back inside there was great discussion over which stick was he thickets, thinnest, longest and shortest.\u00a0 The children then had the choice of 3 different craft activities to create their own Stick Man to take home.<\/p>\n Today the Nursery children joined the primary in celebrating 80 years since VE day.\u00a0 We started by joining an assembly where we marked the anniversary by having a 2 minute silence at 12pm. Then we all headed outside to enjoy a street party complete with buffet food and war time music.\u00a0 After lunch the children enjoyed lawn games where they mixed with older siblings and friends.\u00a0 The day was rounded off with an ice cream in the sunshine!<\/p>\n Today the children moving into primary 1 visited the classroom for a session with Mrs Ferguson.\u00a0 They listened to the story Superworm before going off to pick from four tasks she set them including threading their own worms, wool painting, retelling the story using props and creating playdough worms.<\/p>\n Today Mrs Miller ran the first Play On Pedals session with our families after Nursery.\u00a0 The children engaged in discussion around the various parts of their bikes and how best to look after them.\u00a0 They then moved on to a serious of games to aid balancing and manoeuvring their bikes.\u00a0 Thank you to all the families that attended, we look forward to welcoming you back for next weeks session on Wednesday after Nursery.<\/p>\n This morning we held our annual Grand Prix to raise funds for our summer activities and trips.\u00a0 The children had a ball manoeuvring around the track in their various vehicles.\u00a0 A big thank you must go to our fabulous primary 7’s who set up the track and supported the children.\u00a0 Once back to the garden they all cooled off together with some ice lollies.\u00a0 Please look out for more photos in our Big Book and within the children’s Learning Journeys.<\/p>\n Thank you to all the families who joined us to cheers the children on and to those have handed in sponsor money so far,\u00a0 we will update with totals as soon as it is all gathered in.<\/p>\n The children have had a busy week participating in Easter traditions.\u00a0 The children enjoyed Easter arts and crafts including creating patterned Easter eggs and bunny ears, learning of the story of Easter, baking Easter nests and decorating eggs.\u00a0 Today the children rounded of the week by attending the Easter church service where they sang Old McDonald’s ester farm, rolled their eggs and we even had a special visit from the Ester Bunny!<\/p>\n We hope you all enjoy the long Easter weekend.<\/p>\n Today the children were invited to attend Nursery dressed ‘funny for money’ in aid of supporting Comic Relief.\u00a0 We spent the morning outside participating in fun activities such as pin the red nose on the Nursery team, hoopla, bubble making, red nose slush dip in amongst other activities.\u00a0 The children were also invited to have their faces painted if they wish and certainly challenged us with some of the designs they had in mind.\u00a0 In Nursery we raised \u00a343.25 which will be added to the Primary total and sent to the charity.\u00a0 Please look out for the grand total which will be shared soon on the school app.<\/p>\n Thank you to all who donated.<\/p>\n Thank you to all the parents who joined us this week for Stay and Play.\u00a0 It was great to see the children confidently show you all the places they love to play and learn.\u00a0 We also appreciate your comments and feedback which help as plan and make changes\/improvements going forward.\u00a0 As always please see our Big Books or the children’s PLJ’s for many more pictures.<\/p>\n If you were unable to make it this week please speak to a member of the team who will more than happily arrange a suitable time to come in.<\/p>\n Thank you to everyone who joined Miss Jordan’s Bookbug session today.\u00a0 The families enjoyed listening to the story ‘How to catch a rainbow’, playing with musical instruments and singing sensory nursery rhymes and songs.<\/p>\n Our nest Bookbug will be on the 21st of March at 9am and this will be Easter themed.<\/p>\n We celebrated World Book Day in Nursery with our annual bedtime story theme.\u00a0 The children were invited to attend in their jammy’s and bring along their favourite book.\u00a0 The children all had an opportunity to chat about their book and explain why it was their favourite and could be found doing so all throughout the day.<\/p>\n We were also fortunate enough to join a webcam link to the Wigtown Book festival where Mike Nicholson was reading his new book Mr Granny went to Scotland and she brought back……. It was an interactive session that the children really enjoyed.<\/p>\n This week as the weather has began to brighten we have noticed children spending longer outdoors.\u00a0 One game that is very popular and has regularly been instigated by the children is ‘Whats the Time Mr Wolf’ leading to lots of discussion around time, clocks and why we do not have one outdoors in Nursery.<\/p>\n A group of children were invited to go off a walk to look and see if they could find clock faces in the community close to the school.\u00a0 They first of all noticed numerals on the bus stop which led to a discussion around the numerals representing the times the bus would stop.\u00a0 Further along they weren’t long in spotting the clock tower at the harbour carpark and the museum.\u00a0 Closure inspection by the children resulted in them noticing the towers had four clock faces.\u00a0 They noticed the numerals were different to what they were used to and the adults explained they were roman numerals made up of lines and letters which could often be found on clocks.\u00a0 The children then spotted clocks in local shops such as the jewellery and hardware store.\u00a0 \u00a0We then decided to purchase so spray paint on the way home to create our very own clock.<\/p>\n We took Simoa along for a walk to remind us to think about all the ways in which we can keep safe.<\/p>\n In Nursery we have been discussing the importance of good hand hygiene.\u00a0 We reminded ourselves of the hand washing routine and the really important times of the day when we should wash our hands.\u00a0 We also discussed why it is so important to wash hands and what may be lurking on them if we don’t!\u00a0 This led to today’s experiment where we used pepper in water to represent our germs and the children experimented with putting their finger in with and without soap, they were amazed to watch how fast the germs (pepper) moved to the edges.\u00a0 This led to some fantastic questioning, problem solving and discussion.<\/p>\n I have put an example video from Youtube if you wanted to try it at home.\u00a0 Let us know if you give it a try!<\/p>\n<\/a> \u00a0<\/a> <\/a> <\/a> <\/a> <\/a> <\/a> <\/a><\/p>\nPolice Visit – 19.03.26<\/h1>\n
