Guide to staff/participants ratios for the Outdoor Education Service.

We can supply outdoor activities’ sessions tailored to your group need either as part of a residential stay with us or on a non – residential basis. The following is a guide activities and instructor client ratios:

Ratio of participants to instructor

1:8 for Kayak/Canoes (Lochs)

1:6 for Kayak/Canoes (Rivers) up to grade 2

1:4 Kayak up to grade 4(Rivers)

1:10 to Climb no more than 2 ropes

1:8 to mountain bike or 2:12 no younger than p4

1:15 hill walk Low Level

1:10 hill walk up to 350m

1:8 hill walk above 350m

1:12 Orienteering

1:9 sailing but no more than 6 boats on water

Instructor Hire is £25.00 per hour per instructor. Safety equipment and specialist clothing is included in price.

These are maximum ratios – they may require to be reduced depending on the needs of the terrain weather and the group members. The ratios must also include any group leaders in these numbers.

For child protection reasons there must always be a second adult with each group
