What a terrific job P7 made of organising Red Nose Day. Beat the goalie, wet sponges and all those delicious cakes…… made for a very enjoyable day! They raised a wonderful £464.32. Well done and thank you to all those who took part and donated to such a worthwhile cause.

The Senior pupils have organised a fundraiser for Comic Relief next Friday. Children can come dressed in casual clothes for a £1 donation. There will be some activities…such as Beat the Goalie…. and a cake sale at break time.
Red noses will go on sale on Monday. They are £1 each and will no doubt sell quite quickly.
I’ve discovered that my blogging skills are not what I’d hoped they’d be! It appears that posts and pages are not the same thing……so I’ve had another lesson and think that I have it clear now! Most things will now appear on this front page and be automatically archived. I will still put the newsletter on the newsletter page but the Captains’ log items will now appear here!
We were delighted that our Euro Quiz and our Rotary Quiz teams both came second in their respective competitions. The Euro quizzers went to a tie break and the Rotary quizzers lost by one question!

I wonder if you saw the article on the news this week about a Head Teacher in the north of England who sent home a list of banned words! He was making the point that children should be able to speak Standard English and that also helps with children’s spelling. I won’t be sending home a list of words that are banned but I do think he was making a valid point!
Well, we have been very lucky not to have any school closures because of snow although the forecast is poor for Friday. We will always endeavour to keep school open, however at times it is necessary for safety reasons to close. Some staff live quite a distance from school and may have to leave school early to get home safely. In these instances classes will have to double up and we will send a text asking parents to collect their child, if possible, as soon as possible and would greatly appreciate your help in this.
The children are all now busy learning their Scots Poetry ready for the school competition. Primary 7 will be attending Burns’ Statue on Friday morning and Neil Macdonald will be reciting ” Address to a Haggis”
In the afternoon, weather permitting, Primary 6 will be joining the memorial service for Robert Burns at St. Michael’s Church.
They have a lovely display up in school about their learning about Robert Burns and P6 and P7 have made super paper kilts for a “Highland Fling” display.
Some children from P5 -7 were involved in a BBC podcast which you can go to by following this link. They talk about their favourite poems, making porridge and artefacts at Burns’ House.
