As part of the Nursery Improvement Plan we will be working with Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, later this term to share the SHANARRI ethos with parents and carers. There is a link on the right under “Useful Reading”<\/span> called “Girfec leaflet”<\/span> which explains this. Last term we also began talking to the children about these wellbeing indicators to gauge their understanding initially of what being safe means for them.<\/p>\n

We thought we would share some of the ideas that the children came up with.<\/p>\n

Wareeshah:<\/span> we don’t run away.<\/span>
\n Mollie:<\/span> don’t go on the road.<\/span>
\n Ben F.: <\/span>holding a grown-up’s hand.<\/span>
\n Finn:<\/span> don’t bang heads.<\/span>
\n Henley:<\/span> don’t run.<\/span>
\n Jayden<\/span>: stay away from water.<\/span>
\n Grant:<\/span> I don’t go too fast when I’m on my bike.<\/span>
\n Euan:<\/span> stay away from fire.<\/span>
\n Ellie:<\/span> stay away from under the sink. There’s stuff there that hurts you.<\/span>
\n Jenson:<\/span> sit on your seat properly.<\/span>
\n Ewan:<\/span> don’t jump off the edge of a cliff.<\/span>
\n Aoife:<\/span> Mummy and Daddy keep you safe.<\/span>
\n Erica:<\/span> don’t touch knives or you’ll get cut.<\/span>
\n Kenzie:<\/span> walking is safe. Follow the Nursery rules.<\/span>
\n Hannah:<\/span> stay away from the edge of<\/span> the harbour. If you fell off you couldn’t get out.<\/span>
\n Rory:<\/span> stay with your Mummy near the river.<\/span>
\n Finbarr:<\/span> don’t run and don’t jump down mountains.<\/span>
\n Orla:<\/span> stay on the paths.<\/span>
\n Sian:<\/span> don’t go next to fireworks.<\/span>
\n Luca:<\/span> you need to safe in a house – safe from black ice.<\/span>
\n Chloe:<\/span> it means you don’t get runned over.<\/span>
\n Joshua:<\/span> you stay safe in the line ’cause people hold hands.<\/span>
\n Dylan:<\/span> stay inside so cars can’t get you.<\/span>
\n Ben W.: <\/span>stay in the house ’cause you might get hurt if you’re not with your Mum and Dad.<\/span><\/p>\n

We were very impressed with all the different ideas that the children produced about staying safe. We will be looking at more indicators with them next term and look forward to hearing their thoughts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
