The village of Eastriggs was built during World War 1 to house munitions workers who worked at HM Factory Gretna. Eastriggs is Scotland’s Commonwealth village. Many of the streets in Eastriggs are named after places in what used to be the British Empire. Place names from Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, India and Canada can be found on street signs all around Eastriggs.
Some of the Australian place names to be found around the village.
Eastriggs village green – this is often the first thing that visitors see when they arrive in Eastriggs and was a main meeting point for village events.
St John’s Church – our infant classes visit for special services throughout the year.
Eastriggs has a huge playing field with children’s play park, skateboard park and basketball/tennis courts nearby.
We are lucky to have a brilliant tourist attraction called ‘The Devil’s Porridge’ in our village. Click here to visit The Devil’s Porridge website. Here you can find out more about the fascinating history of the village and surrounding areas. Our children have several occasions to visit during their time at Eastriggs, to support different areas of their learning, such as Our Community, World Wars 1 and 2, as well as finding out about village history.
