ICT Maths Club

During term 2 and term 3 Miss Mawer ran an ICT maths club for all ages to improve their maths and numeracy skills on the computer. They played games like table mountain and sumdog. They all had lots of fun! This club was also set up to improve everybody’s confidence on computers.

P5/6 IDL Work- natral disasters, weather and climate

Term three has been incredibly busy in P5/6. The children have really embraced their IDL topic this term. Everybody learned lots about natural disasters through research and creating fantastic posters. We then moved on to investigate weather and climate with the children researching the climate in a range of countries including India, Australia, Egypt and the USA. After the February break we will be learning about water which will involve science investigations which I am sure everyone will enjoy.

Well done p5/6!

Skills for Life

P1/2 and P2/3 have been carrying out some Health and Wellbeing work.  P1/2 learned all about communication and P2/3 learned about Restorative Practice.  Last week, each class shared their learning with the other.

P1/2 taught P2/3 about the importance of good talking and listening and carried out some fun activities like putting jigsaws together with no talking aloud, using the communication ball and share some information about each other.

P2/3 created and performed some drama scenes to show us fall outs in the playground and how some problems can be resolved by talking things through.

Great work!

Soccer Sevens

On the 2nd of October 2018 Joseph, Alex O, Reilly, Reece, Finley, Kasey, Lucas, Callum and Will went to Palmerston indoor arena to play in a football tournament called Soccer Sevens. The whole team played brilliantly. We played a against Georgetown, Newington, Hardgate, Heathall, Laurieknowe and Lochmaben. We were placed 2nd by just 1 point. It was so close. We won 4 matches, drew 1 match and lost one match. The team represented the school and we couldn’t have played much better. Well Done!

Operation Safety

On Wednesday 10th of October P7s went to DuPont. There were 5 sets of activities which were supervised and controlled by Scottish Power, ambulance service, police force and fire brigade. The first activity was with the ambulance service. There was a lady lying on the floor with one foot on a chair. She was an actress pretending to be unconscious. We were to try and save her while we waited for the ambulance to come.  We went to move her foot off the  chair and she screamed so loud. It gave everyone in the room a mini  heart attack. The next activity was an internet safety task with a twist that no one expected. After that our team went down stairs to spot some dangers around the room. It was very interesting seeing all the different dangers. After that we went to firework safety/ bonfire safety. We had to throw a cardboard firework and try not hit a picture of a mum and her baby. We answered some questions about the bonfire night and then went to our  final set which was Scottish Power. We learned about the dangers of electricity and what the signs do. Our day was really interesting and good fun.

Harvest Assembly

Well done to P5/6 and P6/7 for a super Harvest Assembly yesterday. Some super learning and poems. You could see how much they enjoyed sharing their learning with us all. Well done to all the classes for some fab songs and singing. Thank you to everyone who donated items for the harvest table and well done to the House and Vice captains for delivering the harvest bags to people in the community and to the Foodbank Charity.  Have a lovely holiday.

Soccer Sixes

On the 9th of October a team of footballers including Reilly, Lucy, Eva, Reece, Owen, Ryan, Finely, Jay and Aidan played at Palmerston in the Soccer Sixes and prepared for four hard games. First game was 2-1 to Cargenbridge against Dalbeattie, so we got 3pts. Next we played Lincluden and the score was 1-0 to us. After that we played against Georgetown but unfortunately got beat 2-0. Shock horror hit when we went 1-0 down but then somehow won 3-1 against Hardgate. Unluckily Georgetown won by 3pts but everyone enjoyed the experience well done team!
