Transport for Christmas Show

With the appalling weather, we will be transporting the children on to the Baptist centre this afternoon for the show. Many parents/families have already volunteered to help with this: we need booster seats for our smaller pupils, and if anyone can let us borrow if they are unable to help , we would be very grateful. Please let the school office know.

P5 & P6 Christmas Show

P5 & P6 will be performing their show “Mystery at Magpie Manor” at the Baptist Church Centre on Tuesday 10th December at 1.30 p.m. All the classes will be walking on to the church to watch the show, and should be collected from there at the end of the school day.

Christmas Jumper Day 13th December

Dumfries & Galloway Council is supporting Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 13th December. If anyone wishes to make a donation to this cause, please send to the school office.

Many children are already wearing their jumpers, as are many of the staff!

Orangutan Week- making the news!

and his orangutan team made the news:

A pupil led campaign at a Dumfries school is encouraging everyone to avoid products that contain palm oil.

Primary five pupils at Calside Primary have been raising awareness of endangered orangutans. And thanks to their fundraising efforts, they have raised a total of £421.35 for Orangutan Awareness Week.
James Henderson, 9, first took an interest in orang-utans a few years ago while watching a wildlife documentary and found that he shared the same hair colour as them. Since then he continued to seek out information on orangutans and became upset when he discovered that they were endangered as a result of palm oil.

Eighteen months ago, James decided that he would like to spend his pocket money adopting an orangutan and done this through WWF.  He also received an adoption of another orangutan from a family friend for his birthday. Along with some friends, who shared the same enthusiasm, they approached their school to hold a bake sale.  The bake sale was well received and raised over £72.

Mum Jane Henderson said: “James and his friends are actively encouraging family and friends to avoid products that contain palm oil, which itself is quite challenging as palm oil is contained in so many everyday products you wouldn’t expect. These small acts of change can make a huge difference to these beautiful animals.”
