Coffee Afternoon

On Friday the 14th of September, Brydekirk Primary got together where pupils and staff wore yellow and the school was opened up for a coffee afternoon. Parents and the wider community were invited to join us and donations were given where we raised over £100: all proceeds will be sent to Marie Curie.

The event recognised the recent passing of Mark Nicholson, one of our parents of former pupils Amy, Katie and Dan. Our deepest condolences go to them and Debbie and Ellie.

Basketball Tournament – Match Report

Our first match was against Langholm Jets and it was a very physical match which we won 6-1. Our next match was against Hecklegirth Stingwrays and they missed a couple of chances so we won 3-0. After a forty minute break we played Newington Warriors and lost 2-0 to a very skillful team. Then we had a play-off against Langholm again and it was a very rough match but we won 2-1. Our next match was against Hecklegirth Harriers, it was a very fast paced match and we lost 1-0. So it was a fight for third and we were against Newington Wildcats and they were well prepared so we lost 2-1.

Finally, it was presentation time. Hecklegirth came 1st, Newington Warriors came 2nd and Newington Wildcats came 3rd. Brydekirk came 4th and we all tried 100%.

Mean Icicles

Hope everyone is well.

Anyone bored, please see my post from yesterday.

Here’s another one for you. We’ve been learning about mean, median and mode in mathematics. Yesterday, I spotted these beauties hanging from a gutter: icicles! I carefully counted and measured them using technology (it was too cold and dangerous otherwise) and found the following lengths:

{23cm, 40cm, 25cm, 28cm, 44cm, 25cm, 32cm, 34cm, 30cm, 28cm, 32cm, 49cm, 37cm, 25cm}

Find:

  1. the mean length of icicle in cm.
  2. the median icicle length, in cm.
  3. and find the mode.

We’ve also been working on the internal angles of polygons and so far have found out pentagons and hexagons. Find out more.

Alternatively, find three dice and have a game of Yahtze, or teach someone how to play it.

Hope everyone is well in these adverse conditions.

Best wishes,

Mr A
