Evaluating our learning

We gave ourselves a score of 1-10 to show how much we knew about materials at the beginning of term and then a new score to show how much we know now. Our scores had risen.

We also discussed how we could continue to improve these scores. (Christopher is going to look at patterns of bricks on buildings). We chatted about how we can apply our learning in different situations.  Oliver thinks his knowledge will be useful in Minecraft and lots of children are excited about their plans to build new models.)

Summer Fayre- an enterprise project

P3 have been very busy making items to sell on our stall. We decorated plant pots and planted petunias. They look great and will be a great addition to any home!

We also made bunting and posters for our stall and some children have volunteered to help at the stall on Saturday for a few minutes. What a great way to put into practice our learning about money. Today we were able to talk about profit. Please support our stall on Saturday.

We will also be running a small hoop-la stall. The children suggested suitable distances to throw hoops from, and we put our measuring and throwing skills into practice as we worked out these distances.

Making a shelter

We have put together all our learning about materials to build a shelter for a toy and today we started this project.

We had to make a base and then choose materials for supports. Wooden sticks, plastic straws and paper or card cylinders were selected.

Then after careful consideration we chose a material for the roof, which was strong and waterproof. We discussed how to fix this on. Mrs Taylor was delighted to see different strategies being used, co-operation between friends and perseverance. Some of our toys are loving these shelters already. We will add more to them next week.
