Needed…. a suitable material for an umbrella

We enjoyed finding a suitable material for an umbrella. We dropped water onto  a variety of materials and discovered which ones were waterproof. The shower curtain material was surprising as although it was showerproof, water did eventually come through this. Plastic and tin foil were the most waterproof materials. Thick denim was also quite waterproof, but many of us had tales to tell about when our jeans had got soaked on a rainy day!

At the end of the lesson, we tested Mrs Taylor’s umbrella and Alice stayed nice and dry. Miss Douglas was out with her class and she also had an umbrella with her. As it was made of a different material we asked to borrow it and Kayleigh can vouch for the fact that it kept her dry!

Materials

This term we will be learning all about materials; what different kinds of materials there are and how they have  different qualities. We will explore why certain materials are chosen for different purposes.

We found all sorts of materials in the feely bag.

We looked at different materials on our walk.

We remembered how some of the pigs in the 3 pigs story didn’t make good choices when choosing materials for their homes.

An Easter challenge!

We had fun in the gym hall looking for Easter eggs and completing the challenges we found hidden in the eggs.

We played Easter tig, travelled as Easter bunnies on a  circuit, completed the gamboling lambs circuit, made an Easter shape and made up an Easter dance.

We earned our chocolate reward!
