Primary 7 took part in an Athletics Festival held at Menzieshill Community Centre on Tuesday. Each pupil took part in at least one event and these included relay, jumping and throwing events.
Primary 7 are taking part in a project related to feedback over the next two terms and have started this project with some co-operative learning activities. They have been put into teams and last week worked together to create an identity for their team.
Through co-operative learning the pupils gain invaluable experiences from working together and have the opportunity to practice social skills, communication skills and learn from other pupils.
This week they worked with their home team to complete a literacy activity for Scottish Book Week and they each had different tasks to carry out.
Primary 7 have been conducting research into some of the people that were onboard the Titanic. They have each chosen a passenger or crew member to research further and to evidence their research they are creating an Instagram profile for their chosen person.
They are developing their knowledge and skill in using Powerpoint whilst completing the profiles.
Primary 7 and Primary 1 had a busy buddy time this week. They spent time outside using the Pod and then worked together on a literacy task. Primary 7 helped their buddies to make their own invitations for the Book Bug Event which takes place next month. They helped them with writing names on the invitations and they decorated them. Primary 7 have now read two of the Book Bug books with their buddies and we will read the final book next week.
Primary 7 enjoyed their creative writing lesson with Mrs Christie, the focus of this lesson was using figurative language to create an appropriate and convincing atmosphere, by the end of the lesson the class were able to identify the five elements to effectively create atmosphere. We will continue with developing our knowledge of these elements in literacy this week.
To review the learning we played a game of Figurative Language Bingo and Connor was the lucky winner and received a book from Mrs Christie!
Primary 7 enjoyed taking part in various numeracy games and activities this morning for the Numeracy Open Event, thanks to those who were able to pop in and join in with some of the fun games!
Primary 7 are focusing on creative writing in class literacy this term and over the course of the term are learning about the different elements that writers use to create interesting and powerful stories.
Mrs Christie from St John’s English Department is helping us with some of our lessons and our first lesson with Mrs Christie was based on setting. We learned about the five things we need to describe when creating a setting and we worked in groups to create word banks that will help us when we create our own Titanic survivor stories.
Primary 7 enjoyed using the Kapla on Friday afternoon and challenged themselves to make a tower taller than Mrs Paton! Sian and Rebecca worked together and made a model of the Titanic with the Kapla.
Primary 7 and Primary 1 had the chance to visit the library in the newly opened Menzieshill Community Centre. We were very impressed with the new library and all the lovely, comfortable spaces to sit and read books together.
