TASK 3 – Scholastic’s Learn at Home Article

2. Once you have read the article, create some of your own literal and inferential questions based on the article.  We have been working on these questions in class, remember literal questions are questions that come directly from the text and inferential questions involve the reader having to search for clues to answer the question.
3. Ask someone to home to read the article and then answer your questions, or ask a classmate to answer them by commenting on this post.
4. Select one of the writing prompts from the article and turn it into a journal entry. A drawing, a poem, a collage—there is no wrong way to journal, so be as creative as you want.

ADDITIONAL TASK – Start your own diary/journal of this time we are having to spend at home due to the virus, add a bit each day and remember it can be a drawing, a poem, anything you want!  You could use the blank jotters in your Home Learning pack if you wish 🙂

Once you have finished, please use a calculator to correct or ask someone at home to correct your work.  Remember, you can also use the inverse operation to correct your work too. TASK 2 – PODCAST MATHS QUIZ – (You may be asked to sign up to BBC to access this, ask an adult at home – it’s just an email address and then create a password, I just set up an account for myself)

Each of these quizzes discuss an area of maths  – this quiz focuses on ‘product’ and what this is – we were learning about products, factors and multiples before school closed. Today is Earth Day 2020 and it is also the 50th anniversary of this day.  Typically, Earth Day is assigned a different theme or area of focus each year; this year’s theme is Climate Action.  Can you create your own image or poster to highlight this year’s theme?

If we had been in school we would have been thinking about what we can do to help the planet and also thinking about the Global Goals that we studied in Term 1.  Things are different however, and with social distancing in place, Earth Day has gone digital.  To see a catalogue of official events, visit earthday.org.

TASK 2: LEARNING HOW TO WRITE A SPEECH

Over the last 2 terms we have been working hard in cooperative groups to improve confidence in talking to different people and learning various ways to respond.  Following on from this we were going to be learning about the techniques for writing a short speech that will grab your audience’s attention.  Although we are not in school, we can still continue with our learning and BBC Bitesize have produced some lessons that we are going to use.

Learning how to write a speech will be beneficial for you as you may be asked to do this when you are at high school.  Writing a speech uses similar techniques to those we learned about when studying persuasive writing – do you remember what AFOREST means?

Today I would like you to use the following link to access the lesson.  Watch the video, read the information and then complete the quiz to test your knowledge (Activity 1).

Then complete Activity 2:

Write a short speech of about 150 words on one of the following topics (remember to use the techniques):

• Persuade your parents that social media is essential in helping you socialise.

• Persuade your friends that exercise is important.

• Persuade your neighbours to take part in a scheme to help your local community (You could link this to the Stay Home advice we are following at the moment)

  Corbett Maths – Primary 5 a day

Please complete some of the worksheets on Corbett Maths 5 a day – you do not need to print the worksheet, simply write the question in your jotters and work it out.

Start on the 1st April and begin to work through them, you do not need to complete all of April in one day!  There are 4 levels of difficulty ranging from Bronze to Platinum (most difficult). Please do not worry if there is a question you are unsure of.
