PRIMARY 7 – GOODBYE FROM MRS PATON

Primary 7, your final day of primary school is here and not a bit like any of us thought it might be. I am so glad you all were able to come into school yesterday, what a fantastic last day you had.

I’m sorry for everything you’ve missed out on in the past few months 🙁 Hopefully things are a bit more ‘normal’ for you starting high school in August. Keep following the rules as best you can, so that this can happen.

You have been a fantastic P7 and I will miss you all very much. I hope you can look back on your time at St Ninian’s with happy memories and know that you will be missed.

Have a lovely, safe summer and here are the P7 memories I shared with you all yesterday 🙂

PRIMARY 7-TRANSITION TASKS

Hello Primary 7,

Although times are different and we are not spending the final few weeks of Primary 7 as we normally would, we can still work on some tasks that we would have been doing in school. I have put together a selection of tasks related to your transition to secondary school and you can work away on these this week.

1 – Top Tips for Secondary School

Read this document:  https://glowscotland-my.sharepoint.com/:b:/g/personal/ddspaton810_glow_sch_uk/EZ3C8qAa2AhLoT07pYgzRnQB25sgZSPd-RJyr6xBHpfLww?e=Sg26Qf

TASK – Using your knowledge and experience of being a Primary 7 and being a buddy and a prefect, can you create a similar ‘top tips’ for the new Primary 7’s – these can be shared with them in August when they start P7.

Think about how you felt when you started P7, the achievements you have made and challenges you have overcome, what words of wisdom would you share?

This can be done in any format you wish – on paper, a word document, a PowerPoint, a video, you can be as creative as you wish! Please email me with your finished Top Tips for P7 🙂

2 – Travelling to your new school

Think about how you will travel to your new school.

  • If you will take a bus to school, have a look at bus timetables and plan your journey.  Dundee Bus Timetables:  https://nxbus.co.uk/routes/dundee/
  • If you will walk to school, plan your route and if possible maybe you can walk the actual journey beforehand.
  • If you will be getting a lift to school, find out from whoever will be dropping you off what time you will need to leave the house.
  • If you will be travelling home by a different method than in the morning, plan this too.

3 – New Home

Check out your new home! Look at the website of the secondary school you are going to, find the following:

  • School Handbook
  • Uniform
  • Extra Curricular Clubs and Activities

St John’s RC High School: http://stjohnshigh.ea.dundeecity.sch.uk/

Harris Academy: http://harrisacademy.ea.dundeecity.sch.uk/

High School of Dundee: https://www.highschoolofdundee.org.uk/

4 – Transition Workbook

Complete this Transition Workbook which has various tasks and activities  – you do not need to print it, you can write things down in a jotter or on paper.  You could also download it and save your own copy and then edit it with your answers.  (Please note that slide 7 has a timetable with questions to answer, this is not your actual timetable!)

PRIMARY 7-NUMERACY TASKS W/C 15TH JUNE

Hello Primary 7 🙂 Here are the numeracy tasks for the week,  you do not need to complete all tasks, simply choose the tasks that are of interest to you and remember you can also look through all of the previous posts and complete some tasks you haven’t already done or use some of the websites that have already been posted.

NUMERACY TASKS

  1. GENERATE YOUR OWN BOARD NUMBER using the Mathsbot Question Generator  https://mathsbot.com/questionGenerator

The page will look like this at the top and you can choose how many groups of questions you get. You can start with 1 group of 5-10 questions then build up to more.

Question Generator –  Then select a topic from the drop down box – for example Arithmetic: Four Operations then choose the level of difficulty (0 being the easiest and 10 being the hardest).  Then select the time limit – start with 10-15 minutes and then click on Create Questions.

2. COUNTDOWN  – Can you reach the target number? The challenge is to use the numbers available and the four standard operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) to hit the target.  Each number can only be used once but it may not be necessary to use all the numbers.    https://nrich.maths.org/6499

3. MATHS CALENDARS  –Please use the Maths Calendars for some revision and further challenge.

1st Level will be revision and if you have a younger sibling at home you could even teach them how to do it – remember teaching others helps us to recall 90% of what we learn! The 2nd level is what we will have been doing in class and the 3rd level you will have done bits of, so don’t worry if you are not sure of all of the 3rd level questions.
 4.  TOPMARKS DAILY  10 – work on your mental maths skills, choose your level (6 is the hardest) and choose the area you wish to work on, for example, multiplication then select the question interval.  https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/daily10
5. PODCAST MATHS QUIZ – (You may be asked to sign up to BBC to access this, ask an adult at home – it’s just an email address and then create a password, I just set up an account for myself).

You will need your jotter/paper and a pencil – listen to the podcast, there are various questions and then the answers are given too.  The last round is Target Number, the same as we play in class.  Keep a score of your points! Let me know your scores by commenting on this post. Good Luck!   https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/b03g6w05

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/b03g6w04

6. Corbett Maths Worksheets  – Please complete some of the worksheets on Corbett Maths 5 a day – you do not need to print the worksheet, simply write the question in your jotters and work it out.

Start on the 1st June and begin to work through them, you do not need to complete all of it in one day!  There are 4 levels of difficulty ranging from Bronze to Platinum (most difficult). Please do not worry if there is a question you are unsure of.

Here is the link to the June questions:   https://corbettmathsprimary.com/2019/12/03/printer-friendly-5-a-day-june/

Here is where you can find the answers, please have a go at working out the answer before checking the answers. You may wish to complete one day, correct it and then move onto the next day.
7. SUMDOG – There is a Dundee Sumdog Competition that I have entered the class into, it starts on Friday 19th June at 8am.   https://www.sumdog.com/user/sign_in
8.  NUMBER BONDS GAME – Write down a 2 digit number and who you are playing against has to figure out the number bond to 100. For example, 65 is the number written down, the answer is 35 because 65 + 35 = 100.
Further Challenge – Try number bonds to 1000.
More challenge – number bonds to 10,000

PRIMARY 7-HOME LEARNING W/C 15TH JUNE

Good Morning Primary 7 🙂

I hope you are all well and had a lovely weekend! This week there will be one numeracy post and one literacy post – please choose from the suggested tasks and activities.  There will also be a transition activities post that I would encourage you to do as I think it will be helpful for you all.
