PRIMARY 7-NUMERACY 11/6/20

Thursday 11th June – Numeracy Tasks

Good Morning Primary 7, here is today’s Board Number, remember you do not have to do the extra, this is simply an extra challenge.

Once you have finished, please use a calculator to correct or ask someone at home to correct your work.  Remember, you can also use the inverse operation to correct your work too. For example 28472 x 6, once you have the answer, to use the inverse operation to correct, simply carry out a division calculation using your answer divided by 6 (the answer to this division calculation should be 28472).

PRIMARY 7-HOME LEARNING ADDITIONAL TASKS

Good Afternoon Primary 7,

I have put together a selection of other activities and tasks you may wish to do whilst at home this week, please do not feel that you have to do everything, but choose some tasks that are of interest to you.

STEM Challenges (science, technology, engineering and maths)

1 –  What can you do with a Cereal Box?  Email me your creations. Give a description of what you’ve made and what purpose it has!

2 – Find experts to learn from –
Scientists, engineers, and inventors learn from others. They often look at the ideas others have come up with and try and make them even better. We hear lots of stories in the news about scientists and other experts addressing problems related to COVID-19. What can you learn from these stories? What problems can you help solve? Could you design a new face mask that is comfortable to wear? What about a safe way to press buttons and open doors without physical contact?   See 10 Coronavirus Design Challenges for more ideas.

3 – Think about creative new ways to do things in your everyday life.
While we are spending more time at home, we are bound to take more notice of our surroundings. How could you make your space more exciting and interesting? Could you rearrange your bedroom furniture in a new creative way?

4 – Science Sparks Youtube channel – experiments you can try at home (please check with an adult first!) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoy2L2ZIm8bgIFwaQlhkIAw

5 – Science Museum – Take a virtual tour, play some games or learn about some scientists. https://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/

6 – Raspberry PI – Coding

Ready Steady Cook!

If you are able,  use this time at home to get involved in some cooking! Help an adult prepare a meal, or if you can, prepare one by yourself. Make sure you have permission and support to do this safely. I’d love to see some pictures of you getting involved in the kitchen and of course, your finished dishes!

Social Studies – The New 7 Wonders of the World

In 2000 a Swiss foundation launched a campaign to determine the New Seven Wonders of the World. Given that the original Seven Wonders list was compiled in the 2nd century BCE—and that only one entrant is still standing (the Pyramids of Giza)—it seemed time for an update. And people around the world apparently agreed, as more than 100 million votes were cast on the Internet or by text messaging. The final results were announced in 2007.

The New 7 Wonders of the World are:

TASK – Research one of these 7 Wonders of the World.

Display your research however you wish – poster, PowerPoint, essay, video etc – this can be sent to me and posted on your blog. Think about the following:  location, the history, interesting or unusual facts.

Additional Task – Find out what the original 7 Wonders of the World were.
