This week’s science task got rather smelly… But our Volcano eruption was a success! We investigated the different types of chemical reactions taking place, and named the signs that a chemical reaction is taking place. We then used our experience to further our instructional writing; creating a set of instructions that allow others to create their own volcano! 
Primary 6 Science
Last week we took part in our first ever science experiment! We had to ensure we knew all of the safety precautions needed to work in a laboratory before beginning. This experiment focused on our knowledge of scientific vocabulary. We learned about a variety of meanings in science, and in particular we learned about the meaning of ‘soluble‘ and ‘insoluble‘. We now know that sand and iron shavings, may be two very minuscule pieces of solid matter, but as neither of them are a liquid, they will never dissolve. We spoke about how some chemical reactions are reversible and some are irreversible. we spoke about what tools we can use to separate some states of matter (e.g. drain pasta from hot water using a sieve). We were a very clever bunch, and realised very quickly that a magnet would work to separate the iron from the sand, as it is a metal. Here we are as scientists for the afternoon!
Primary 6 Maths
This term’s work on ‘volume’ has allowed us to see the many different ways of finding the volume of an object. We appreciate the need to know how to measure volume in day-to-day life, and have been given a variety of opportunities and tools to demonstrate our learning. 
Primary 6 Literacy and Language
This post is to celebrate a brave, young Alexis who read aloud our current story of ‘Lost or Stolen?’ to her whole class! Well done Alexis, you read beautifully and had us all engaged 🙂 
Primary 6 Science Festival
This week, we were very, very lucky! We got to learn all about science on the brain! We were able to take part in lots of different experiments, including testing liquids for starch; creating Carbon-Dioxide through mixing of various chemicals; and taking part in a memory test! We learned all about different parts of the brain and what they are used for. What a great way to start off our science project this term! 
Primary 6 Reading for Pleasure
We have been very lucky in P6, and have been given some brand new reading books for our O.T.T.E.R. (Own Time To Enjoy Reading) area. We have also been given access to newspapers which come with their very own interactive website called First News iHub, which we can log onto at home! On top of this, we have been spoilt with a load of new comfy cushion and bean bags so we can sit back and relax when reading! 🙂 We are so grateful and can’t wait for more reading opportunities!
Primary 6 Physical Education
This term in P.E., we are investigating ways of improving our own personal fitness. This week, we were split into small groups, in which we designed and choreographed our own Zumba routine!
We have a lot of very creative choreographers in our class and can’t wait to see the finished routines!
Primary 6 Mile Walk
This week on our mile walk, we were joined by the little P1s! We had a lot of fun getting to know them and were so impressed at how fast they can run!
We have been working hard to improve out fitness, and as a way of motivating ourselves, we are timing how quickly we can run our mile journey around the school. Miss Nimmo will time us so we know what we are aiming to beat next time! 
Primary 6 Fit Thursday
For this Fit Thursday, we spent the whole day trying new sports. We tried football, boxing, gymnastics, table tennis and just dance! We loved having a day of physical activity and can’t wait to incorporate some of these games into our P.E. or playground time.
Primary 6 Play in a Pod
This week’s play in a pod was very different as we were joined by the Primary 1s and 2s. We loved having them along to join us! Miss Nimmo says that we were all very nurturing with the younger ones, and it was so good to see us all taking on a bit of responsibility for others.
