Harry Potter Party
To mark the end of term and completion of P5/6’s Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone novel study, we had a Harry Potter party in clsss today. Pupils entered their names into a wizard/witch name generator on www.harrypotter.bloomsbury.com and wrote their magical name onto a Hogwarts ID card. They also took part in an online quiz to find their house and Patronus.
P5/6 tested their broomstick skills by calling “Up”. It was amazing to see the broomsticks shooting upwards after only a few attempts.
We played a game where pupils had to get themselves into pairs to match a Harry Potter inspired word with its definition.
P5/6 learned Harry Potter jokes and riddles, matched characters to their correct houses, decorated their own house crests, made magical school signs – i.e. potions with professor snape, charms with professor flitwick etc.
Pupils were given the opportunity to dress up and we listened to Harry Potter music.
P5/6 also enjoyed an end-of-term treat of a choice of either a knickerbocker glory, chocolate ice cream or lemon ice lolly which were all mentioned in Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone.
Please look at our broomstick skills.
Personal and Social Development
This term, pupils in P5/6 have considered the qualities of a good friend, what good friends do, what good friends don’t do and conflicts that may arise in friendships. Pupils took part in a walkabout/talkabout to discuss the aforementioned then shared their thoughts with their peers.
P5/6 have also learned about having tolerance, empathy, mutual trust, respect and loyalty towards others and have resilience themselves to help them to cope better in challenging situations.
I am very impressed with P5/6’s sensible attitude and growing maturity during these PSD lessons. Well done everyone!
Judo Success
Well done to Wojciech for his recent successful judo tournament! We loved listening to your show and tell and looking at your judo medal.
Congratulations Wojciech, wishing you every success with your future judo competitions.
Numicon Fractions in P5/6
P5/6 have been using numicon to help them to add fractions with the same denominator and trickier addition of fractions calculations with a different denominator.
Harry Potter Spell Class Outdoor Classroom
P5/6 have been listening to Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone by JK Rowling this term during our Class Literacy and our lessons have been based on this fantastic novel.
Pupils in P5/6 have concocted their own spells using Latin inspired phrases and we went out to our outdoor classroom to share them with a swish and a flick of the wands.
Junior Journalist Competition
Well done to Connor whose newspaper front page entry made it to the best of the rest, runners up in the Courier’s Junior Journalist competition.
