This term we are going to look at different Festivals, Celebrations and Events which are taking place around the World.  These events are celebrated by different people in different countries around the world.  By learning about these different events we can see how people from different cultures celebrate events and how some cultures don’t celebrate the same events as us!

We looked at Halloween – where does it come from and how we can ensure that we are being safe at this time of year.  We looked at how this is celebrated in different countries and also how some cultures don’t celebrate this!

We then looked at Silhouette art and created a festive piece of art using silhouettes!

We are now going to move onto look at Guy Fawkes (Bonfire Night) and we are going to explore Día de Muertos (The Day of the Dead) to see why some people celebrate these and where they come from!

We have been learning how to Uplevel our writing.  We have been using our VCOP pyramids to help us imporove our writing.  This has helped us to see how by changing just a few words or pieces of punctuation in our writing that our texts can be transformed! This has also helped us to see that feedback is something which is very important and that by using our feedback in our work, this will ensure that we are learning and improving all the time!

Feedback is something which are going to focus on this term in all areas of our work which will help us to learn and improve our work.  We are also going to focus on VCOP as well as how to increase imagery in our texts in a variety of ways.

We have been starting to explore multiplication in maths.  We have been introducing different methods which we could use to do multiplication.

We have been on the laptops. outside, using Numicon and using the column method for multiplication!  We have also been discussing how important it is that we challenge ourselves!  We have been choosing the challenge level we think is making our brains work hard!

This is going to be our focus at the moment so that we can learn many different methods which we can use to help us to do multiplication calculations.  We have also learned the game “Buzz” which we would love to show you at home!

This week is World Space Week from 4th October until the 11th October!

Unfortunately it falls during the holidays so we can’t celebrate this in school, however there is lots you can do for no/little cost which can keep our engagement and interest in Space during this week!

There will be lots on Newsround, BBC Teach and NASA about Space this week which will be interesting!

On Thursday we had Fit Thursday!

We completed a mile run before lunch which will help our stamina by making our hearts and lungs work hard before relaxing and stretching off in the classroom.  We discussed why this is important and how this helps our body – reducing the chance of pains!

In the afternoon we got to try a number of different sports and activities!  We did Yoga, Boxercise, Hockey and Zumba!  I hope you had a great time (I definitely did!) and can see the benefits of being active as much as you can be!

What was your favourite activity from Fit Thursday and what did you learn about your body?

This week we have been writing letters to the Twits!  This has allowed us to show our knowledge and understanding of punctuation and apply this in a piece of writing.  We also used a dictionary and thesaurus to help our spelling and use of strong vocabulary in these letters.

We were writing to them to explain that their behaviour is not acceptable and what changes they could make to their actions to show Rights Respecting Behaviour like we strive to do every day!

Why don’t you ask us about some of the suggestions that we had for the Twits and why this would be a good change?

This week we finally researched the final planet in our Solar System!  We have now researched every planet in our Solar System and have created a fact file for every planet!  After the holidays we will create a book which will showcase all of the information we have learned about the planets in our Solar System!
