P5 – John Farnworth

We had the amazing opportunity to see John Farnworth this week!  He visited us on Thursday to show us his skills!  John is the World Champion at Freestyle (Football Tricks) and presents football shows on CBBC!  He talked to us about perseverance, never giving up and how important it is to give things your best effort!  He was amazing and we loved seeing his skills!

P5 – Christmas Cards!

On Friday, we were making Christmas cards!  We are doing a job for Mrs MacPhail which needed to be done before the end of September!  We were being creative and finding a different way to make some Christmas cards.  We put our own touch on these by using our finger prints as a template for our design.  We then turned these into many different things such as Santa, Elves, Christmas Trees, Bobbles and Snowmen!

P5 – Listening Skills

This week in Literacy we have been introducing listening skills. Listening is something which is vital in all aspects of life.  This is something which is really important to be good at.  We are going to focus on this more to help improve our listening skills which will be beneficial in school and at home!

P5 – Space!

This week we have been exploring Mars and Jupiter.  We have learned lots of facts about these planets and have been doing our own research using our books, the internet and the QR Codes which we have on our classroom wall!  We are creating our own books full of facts about our Solar System which we can use as a reference book all about Space!

Why don’t you ask us about what we have learned so far?  We will share some of the things we have learned at our Success Assembly on Tuesday!

P5 – Nice Words

This week in Health and Wellbeing we were exploring how nice words can make us feel.

We were investigating a quote from our class novel “The Twits” which said:

“A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” – Roald Dahl.

We each had a piece of paper and walked around writing positive words which would describe this person.  We talked about how this made us feel and how the energy in the room was much more positive!

These will be available to look at on our Health and Wellbeing wall to remind us that we all have things which make an impact on others.  Why don’t you come and check these out at Meet the Teacher?

P5 – Roald Dahl Day

Today for Roald Dahl day we did a quiz all about Roald Dahl using QR codes to answer the questions electronically!

We then created our own pranks just like those in The Twits which we have been reading in class!

Why don’t you ask us about our prank ideas! You might want to keep your eyes peeled when around us!

P5 – LOL Chemical Reactions

This morning in LOL we were investigating Chemical Reactions.  We did an experiment using vitamin tablets and water to see what would happen!

We talked about how to conduct an experiment using words like hypothesis and procedure!

Maybe we can show you at home and explain why this happens by using only vitamins and water!

Dictionary Skills

On Friday, we were continuing with our Dictionary Skills.  We have been learning how to use a dictionary correctly.  This will help us to work independently.  This will also help us to learn some new vocabulary and use these words in our writing!

If you have a dictionary at home then why not ask us to teach you how to play our game “Fastest Finger First!”

Partitioning

This week in maths some of us have started Partitioning numbers for addition.  This is one strategy we are learning to add numbers.  Some of us were even adding two 5 digit numbers together by the end!

Some of us even helped teach the rest of the group!  This is going to be all of our focus for the next week in maths! Please ask us how we are getting on and we might even be able to teach you too!
