Primary 4 – Goodbye From Mrs O

Well here we are at the last day of term. What a crazy few months its been. Its not been the term 3 and 4 anyone could have expected. Lets look forward positively to a new school year and all that will bring. I will miss you all so much. I have loved being your teacher for the last 2 years and you will always hold a special place in my heart. It will be very strange seeing you walk into another teacher’s room for a bit! You are an amazing bunch and I can’t wait to watch you continue to shine like the stars you are. See you soon!

Primary 4 – last week of term

No new work this week as last week and this week we are back in St Ninian’s getting ready for  a new school year.

Catch up with any of the activities from previous weeks that you haven’t got to if you want.

Go on Sumdog.

It’s Forensic week at Dundee Science Centre so follow the link to discover more about this fascinating branch of science.https://www.dundeesciencecentre.org.uk/forensic-week

Have a great week x

primary 4 – Literacy activities week beginning June 15th

Good morning primary 4! I hope you are all ok! As usual I’ve given you a list of activities that you can have a go at. Remember there is no expectation that you do it all .

This week I’d like Get Spelling children to continue with their Red or Blue booklet. Select 10 words to be your spelling focus and practice them in any way you like. Choose 5 words and create 5 Super Sentences using VCOP to show you know how to use the word correctly. At the end of the week get someone to give you a spelling check.

RWI children do the same with your Red Words and remember your daily lesson on YouTube.

Get Spelling Children – try the next reading comprehension below, called Meeting the Dragon.

This week I’d like you to do a reading challenge for a book or story that you have read over the past few months. Here are a few ideas. Remember that I need to know the title of your story and the author name. How about designing a new front cover?

  1. Pick a character and tell me all about them; their personality, their feelings, appearance, the reason for their actions.
  2. Write a different ending.
  3. Write a short description of the story so that someone who has never read it learns the storyline.
  4. Review your story- did you enjoy it? Why? Why not?

If you need some reading inspiration, click the link to get access to e-books. An adult will need to register on the site.

Primary 4- Numeracy week beginning June 15

This week we will continue to focus on time work. Scroll back to last week’s active maths and links as these are still useful skills to develop. It’s helpful to get a mix of written, active and game based learning.  I’ve posted a mix of time written activities. As always you do what fits in with your daily plans- there is no expectation you do it all. Choose your level and do your best.

Primary 4 – Literacy Week beginning 8th June

Here are your literacy activities for the week. Remember you do what you can do. There is no expectation that you do it all. I’ve just given a variety of activities. If you haven’t started/completed our story writing challenge from a few weeks ago, why not make that your focus? I would really love to read anything you have created, however small.

Remember that JK Rowling’s new book can be read online. You also have an opportunity to draw characters that you can send in. Maybe your drawing will appear in the published book!

If you want to read an e-book then get someone at home to register on Oxford Owl- there are so many books of so many types to enjoy.

Get Spelling Blue Group/Red group – please complete the next unit in your workbook over the course of the week. Choose 10 words from that unit and make them your spelling focus. Ask someone to give you a spelling check on Friday. It’s up to you how you learn your spellings. You may prefer to simply remember the spellings or you may prefer to do Active Spelling. Below you will see a chart of some Active Spelling ideas – some are of more use than others. Remember we have used a variety in class.

Primary 4 Numeracy week beginning 8th June – links and active maths

I have listed lots of different activities for you to choose from for the week. We will have a Time and Money focus this week in games and written activities but I would like you to continue to practise your times tables daily. You will also have a couple of Sumdog challenges to complete.

fun ways to teach times tables waldorf flower

How about using your multiplication tables in a creative way? Above you can see a multiplication flower. Why not create a multiplication garden over the week with lots of colour and a variety of flower shapes for each times table.

Remember the importance of getting your body moving in maths. I’m sure you’ve tried bouncing, skipping. throwing, jumping etc when practising your mental calculating. Keep that up. What about linking arms with someone at home and marching around the house or garden. Choose a times table and each time you get to a multiple do a hop, skip, jump, quiet voice, loud voice! Or pat hands together and each time you hit a multiple you have to do something different, like turn around or bounce to the ground and back up… the possibilities are endless!

Remember we did algebra in class? We got sticks, stones etc (or pizza toppings) and gave each thing a value. We then created calculations for others to solve. How about gathering some bits and pieces and having a go. Maybe someone could create one for you to solve?

How about practising your measuring skills with some baking? Accurate measures are really important for a great cake! Maybe you could calculate the difference between different ingredients or calculate totals? Flour and sugar added together? Difference between the butter measure and the flour etc? So you get to do maths then enjoy a lovely piece of home baking after! Win win!

This link has some maths activities you can take outside.

Here we have the link to June’s Ist Level Maths Calendar. Remember you may not be able to do it all – just give it a go.

Primary 4 Friday 29th May

Today is going to be a lovely day. I’d like you to get outdoors safely and enjoy the sun. Maybe you could take a walk up to the school and leave a message on the railings for the school community to see. You could write/draw what you miss but most importantly what you are looking forward to when we are together again.

Maybe you would like to write me a wee message on the blog to tell me some fun things you have been up to? A few people have even emailed me and I love hearing from you because I miss you so much! Its also a great way of practising your ICT skills…. logging in to Glow, accessing your email, writing and sending a message… all great skills!

Have a look at the work from the past few weeks and see if there is anything you could do. I’d love to read a story or see your maths work.

Have a lovely day and a great weekend. I’m in the hub next week but you can still get in touch.
