Primary 4 – Building a Story

This week we have been discussing what makes a really great story. We watched the BBC 500 words Live Lesson to get tips on how to develop our characters and also how to get a good ending. Should our story end with a twist, with a happy ever after or with a question over what happens next? We already know the importance of vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation to our writing so next we filled in a Think Board full of words, similes and phrases to really draw the reader in. Why describe Egypt as hot when you could use ‘scorching’ or ‘sun-baked’? Why use dark when you could use ‘gloomy’ or ‘shadowy’? Next we need to use a ‘story mountain’ to plan our adventure and take our readers along on the journey!
