Primary 4- data handling

Data handling is all about collecting, displaying and understanding information. This link will tell you more about data handling. Above you can see a bar graph which is one way of displaying information. Along the bottom (horizontal axis) we see different creatures and the other axis (vertical axis) tells us how many years they may live for. Can you see what ‘skips’ the years go up in? 20, 40, 60, 80? Working that out will help[ you work out what each smaller line is worth! If you know your tables you’ll be sorted! Give answering the questions a go.

The link below will tell you more about data handling.

Primary 4 – BBC Bitesize daily lessons

This is the link for the week ahead’s daily lessons on BBC Bitesize.

We were working with fractions so the maths section may be helpful.

We worked with fact and opinion when we looked at the myths and legends about the Egyptian gods and the curse of Tutankhamun so the English lesson on fact and opinion is interesting.

Below is a link to today’s lessons – they go live throughout the day – and you can see previous primary 4 tasks here too.

Primary 4 – Thursday 14th May Numeracy all groups

Time

Use the class clock on Topmarks maths to convert these digital times into analogue times.

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/time/teaching-clock

11:30             9:15              4:00             2:45

Then do the same with these examples.

10.23             12.47           8.03              7: 36

Ask someone at home to show you an analogue time (clock with hands) and using the teaching clock show them it on a digital clock. If you want to extend yourself use 24 hour clock. 24 hour clock is how we tell the difference between 6 o’clock in the morning and 6 o’clock in the evening. Parents, here is a link to a great website that has lots of helpful hints and activities for helping with all sorts of subjects, including time.

https://www.theschoolrun.com/what-are-the-12-hour-and-24-hour-clock

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zkfycdm/articles/zcrmqty

This YouTube video isn’t very exciting but its a maths teacher explaining very clearly how to calculate 24 hour time, if you need a reminder! Remember to ask if its ok to go on YouTube.

Ante meridiem or a.m. is the time before midday

primary 4 – Numeracy all groups. Wednesday13th May

Time to give yourself a mid week times table drill! Get on your trampoline, bounce or pass a ball, skip, jump, go up and down a step, do squats , jumping jacks, burpees – whatever physical activity you want to do, do it while saying a times table you find challenging. That will really get you breathless! Involve a partner to shout out random tables to you as you do your exercise.

If you have an outdoor space and some chalk write some of your tables on the ground or leave the answer blank and get someone to time you filling in the answers. Or maybe you could compete with a partner with a different colour to see who is more confident! You could do this on paper too.

Select the times table option on the Funky Mummy game.

Lots of times tables games here too.
