Viking Longhouses

Today as part of our IDL – Vikings, P4 learned about Viking longhouses and completed a table requesting information about number of doors, windows, rooms in a Viking longhouse.

P4 were asked to consider the means by which foods are stored and cooked in their homes, the manner in which they receive heat and light and where their belongings are stored and compared this information to what would have been found in a Viking Longhouse.

Pupils made their own Viking longhouses from Lego and sketched a Viking longhouse in their IDL books.

Play in a Pod

Outdoor Learning

Primary 4 pupils have enjoyed using their imagination and creativity during Play in a Pod sessions outside.

We have had a hair salon made from plastic crates, a livingroom made from wooden crates, a bed made from tyres, a livingroom using a variety of materials from our pod and even a Britain’s Got Talent studio with Simon Cowell, panel, performers and a golden buzzer!!

Pupils use a variety of skills for learning, life and work particularly – teamwork, effective communication, risk assessment, organisation but most importantly a barrel of fun!

Walkabout/Talkabout

Primary 4 took part in a Walkabout/Talkabout and shared their thoughts and feelings about:

What they would like Mrs Robertson to know about them.

What they are nervous about for primary 4.

What they would like to learn.

What they would like in their classroom.

What frightens them.

Pupil opinions shall be taken into account when planning classroom tasks and activities and the classroom layout.  Every pupil has a voice 😁

First Week of Primary 4 – Viking Runes

Hello and welcome to our Primary 4 class blog.

This week we have spent time discussing our new classroom rules and routines, voted for group names and for pupil council and sports council reps.  Pupils also created an “All About Me” Kennings and a poster and wrote their personal targets for this term.

Through our IDL this term, pupils will be learning about the Vikings and we shall also be reading “How to Train Your Dragon”.   As part of our Vikings studies this week, P4 learned how to write their names in Viking Runes, we also collected sticks and twigs from the playground so we can make our names in runes for our class display.
