Primary 4 – Bridge Building PIAP

P4 used the Play in a Pod resources, mainly crates, wooden rods, metal sheets and carpet squares to create their own bridge structure today for pedestrians.

Pupils were given the task of creating a bridge from one area of the playground to the grassy area.

Next week, we will use tyres and cardboard cylindrical tubes to create a bridge for vehicles to cross.  Watch this space…

Primary 4 – Creative Construction

We tried out a new creative construction resource today called Kapla and could not believe how much fun we had with what initially appeared to be nothing more than lots of  simple and identical wooden blocks. We showed our skills in cooperation and creativity.  Look at some of the designs and models we created in just 15 minutes …

Primary 4 – Aye Aye Captain

P4’s IDL this term is learning about Dundee –  transport old and new and The Tay Bridge Disaster.  Pupils will study a variety of famous bridges around the world, choose one to sketch and make a model then design a bridge of their own.

Pupils in p4 are collecting bus/train/tram tickets to study and analyse and one pupil kindly brought in a Captain’s hat for Show & Tell.

Primary 4 – Money Calculations

P4 are working hard to calculate money calculations this term.

Each pupil drew an item for our class “virtual” shop and decided on a price for that item. These items are to be displayed on our class washing line for our 9 o’clock maths challenge. Pupils will choose 2 items and write the prices of these items as a chimney sum and add them together.  The total cost will then be deducted from either £5, £10 or £20 with the change written as various money combinations.

This is helping pupils to gain a better understanding of the addition and subtraction of decimals (money) – skills for life, learning and work.

This will also help us when making preparations for our enterprise project for the school summer fayre.

Money, money, money

P4 Barnardos

Sharing views and opinions about oppression and liberation

This term, P4 are receiving weekly sessions from Barnardos to help encourage pupils to think about “oppression” and “liberation”.  Pupils take part in circle time style games and take part in discussions to share their views and opinions.
