Primary 3 – Wednesday Home Learning Numeracy Task!

Good Morning Everyone! ✨🌼

Today on your timetable we have Numeracy, Literacy, Daily 15, Reading, Newsround and another Home Learning Challenge!

Triangles and Squares

In class (and with Mrs Brankin) we have worked on column addition and subtraction. We have now revised this on the blog.

We know that subtraction is the opposite of addition.

Addition means to add things together where as subtraction means to take things away. This can be really helpful for us as we can use subtraction to help us check addition sums and addition to check our subtraction sums. This is what we are going to look at today.

Lets try the first one together so we can use it as an example…

We have just reversed the sum!
31+45=76
76-45=31

Now it’s your turn! Give these questions a go in your little red maths jotter.

You do not have to complete the challenge questions at the bottom they are simply an extra challenge. 🤗

Primary 3 – Tuesday ICT Home Learning!

We have been using our coding skills to help us write special instructions that are easy for both people and computers to follow!

Today it is our job to help the messy pirate reach the treasure!  To do this we have to make sure we are starting on the square that says “Start”. From here think of a simple code you can give to the pirate to reach each item of treasure on the picture.

You can either write the code like we did last time for the dog task or you can draw pictures similar to what is done in the questions below!

For our ICT Task next week this game might be quite helpful.

Next week we are going to begin writing codes on the computer. This game is a helpful start point for you.

https://www.tynker.com/ide/v3?type=course&slug=activity:puppy-adventure&chapter=0&lesson=2

It is important to connect the small boxes together to create the code to help the puppy! Give it a go. Remember this is only a starting point for next weeks task so don’t worry if you find it tricky 🙂

Primary 3 – Tuesday Literacy Home Learning Literacy Task!

As usual lets start with our phonics lesson.

PHONICS – With a person at home use your pencil as your pointing stick and work your way through the speed sound sheet. Remember to challenge yourself and try to say the sounds in a different order.
Each of you have either set 2 or set 3 sounds in your home learning packs too. With someone at home say the sound and then the words underneath. Remember to say…

  • The special friends
  • Fred in your head
  • Say the words

Work through this booklet to practice this!

JOTTER CHALLENGE – Open your blue home learning jotter and choose another jotter challenge of your choice. Complete this in your blue jotter.

Writing Task!

These activities are split based on literacy levels.

1 Star

If you usually work within the 1 star challenge in literacy please follow the link below. This will take you to a literacy booklet suitable for your level.

https://www.talk4writing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Y1-Unit.pdf

Your literacy tasks will be based around the story ‘Sidney Spider – A Tale of Friendship’.

For today’s task…

  • Read the story with a someone at home.
  • Complete Sidneys sticky notes after you’ve discussed the story with a grown up.

2 Star

Our literacy will be based around the story in the link below. This story is called ‘The Magical Teaching Box’.

https://www.talk4writing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Y2-Unit.pdf

For today’s task…

  • Read the story.
  • STOP READING AT THIS POINT and complete this activity.

  • Continue to read the story and complete this activity.

3 Star

Some of the 3 star challenge activities might be a bit tricky to complete independently but if you would like a challenge you can give this a go!

All our literacy activities are going to be based around the following text. The story is called ‘The Truth about Trolls’.

Read the text  from the link below. Remember this can be done with an adult to help you.

https://www.talk4writing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Y3-Unit.pdf

Our first task is quite tricky. My advice would be to  try and match up the words you know first. For example … the word which could match mean would be nasty.

Give it a try! I promise the next couple of activities will be easier. 🤗

Primary 3 – Tuesday Home Learning Numeracy Task!

Primary 3 – Monday Home Learning Challenge!

Todays home learning challenge involves a bit of data handling.

It has been a little while since we practiced using tally marks but it should be something you are familiar with through our use of these, for table points, in the classroom.

For this activity you will need to use the Twinkl log in/code on the front of your home learning folder.

Use the link below to access the website and create your free account.

https://www.twinkl.co.uk/

Once you have created your free Twinkl account  click the link below. This will take you to a downloadable e-book called ‘Treasures in the Garden‘. We will be referring to this story for todays learning.

https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-l-53236-treasures-in-the-garden-ebook

Todays Activity

  • Read the story ‘Treasures in the Garden’. In the story we can see Holly collects some treasure to try to cheer up her brother.
  • It is your job to find some treasure although the challenge is that you only have 3 minutes to find as much as you can. Although the story is about outdoor treasure this activity can be completed inside too. Ideas of treasure are listed below…

Indoor Treasure                                                  Outdoor Treasure

Teddies                                                                      Leaves

Pencils/Pens                                                          Flowers

Coins                                                                          Sticks

Spoons                                                                      Stones

Shoes                                                                         Insects

  • Count up each item you have found within the 3 minute timer. You could even estimate how many you think you have found before counting them accurately. (Remember an estimate is a rough guess)
  • Create a simple tally chart like the example below. Choose which chilli challenge is most appropriate for your learning. We only have a 1 star challenge or a 2 star challenge today.✨

  • You can complete this task in your jotter or you can even use chalk (if you have it) to complete this outside.
  • Take a picture and post this on the blog.

If you need a little reminder of how tally marks are used watch the video clip below!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/z7r9jxs

Extra Challenge

Can you answer the following questions…

  • What treasure did you find the most of?
  • What treasure did you find the least of?
  • What is the difference between these?

(CLUE – The difference is the most take away the least)
