Primary 3 – Sumdog Challenge!

Primary 3 have been working hard on the Dundee wide Sumdog competition. So far we are in 8th place. We are so proud of ourselves!
Remember it is  the last day of the competition tomorrow but there is still time to log on and play at home. All you need is your Sumdog login.

At the end of the day we looked at the standings so far and realised that Callum was in 1st place across all Dundee schools!
Fantastic Effort!

Primary 3 – Speech Marks!

Primary 3 have been learning all about speech bubbles and speech marks. We read a story called ‘Fairy Gifts’ and used this as a stimulus for all our stations.

Station 1 – We gave our opinions on the story.

Station 2 – We drew our favourite part of the story and added speech bubbles to this.

Station 3 -We worked together to come up with adjectives to describe setting and characters.

Station 4 – We  did a speech bubble activity where we had to fill in the bubbles with appropriate speech to match the pictures provided.

Station 5 – Lastly on our final station we had to add in speech to the story by using speech marks.

Primary 3 – The Great Wall of China!

Primary 3 were learning all about different Chinese cities this week in our IDL lessons. We learned about 5 different Chinese cities and landmarks in these cities. We also found out what the cities are, for example;

Shanghai – the city of modern

Beijing  – the city of the Emperor

Xi’an – the city of history

Harbin – the city of snow

Jinan – the city of Spring

Miss Song played a matching game with us too to see how much we remembered!

Next we watched a video about the Great Wall of China and learned lots of interesting facts. Before we split into groups and had a cooperative learning Kapla challenge. Each person in our group had a special job to complete in order to create our own models of the Great Wall!

Primary 3 – Animal Fact Files!

Primary 3 are learning how to write under headings.

In ICT, we used our learning  on Chinese animals to help us create a fact file about our favourite Chinese Animal.

First children had to log into our class blog to find the instructions for the task. There were also some helpful websites that they could use to find  information for their fact files. Next they had to open word and begin typing. When the fact files were complete children had to use the ‘bold’ button to make their headings stand out.

It was quite tricky but we were able to ask our Learning Trios for help!

Great work boys and girls!

Primary 3 – Chinese Animals!

Primary 3 were shocked to find that a box of animals had escaped into our playground! We searched for them all over.

We found them in lots of different places…

Once we had found all 12 we talked about what kind of animals they were and where they might come from.

We played a game to find out whether the animals were from Scotland or China. Miss Song helped us to pronounce some of the animal names too.

After this we went back inside to learn some more about these animals. We watched three video clips of animals from China, the snow leopard, the giant panda and the golden snub nosed monkey. Miss Song even told us some more about these. We learned so much!

Finally we put our new knowledge to the test as we worked with our learning partners to cut and stick the animals into the correct category. This was to show us if the animals were from Scotland or China. We did such an amazing job!
