Primary 3 – Health and Wellbeing!

Primary 3 are learning about expressions and relationships.

We are learning about these through special  stories which are all linked to important values such as compassion, love, communication, peace, friendship, joy, co-operation, bravery and honesty.

This week we focused on honesty by reading about Bertha the Bunny. We talked about different situations where it would be important to be honest. We then acted out the situation from the story book.

Primary 3 – Book Reviews!

Primary 3 are learning about opinions.

To do this we decided it would be fun to give our opinion on our Menzieshill Library books. We picked these ourselves on our library visit.

Primary 3 are going to write a book review for their books and display them in our classroom. This might inspire others to read them too!

This can eventually be a task the children can complete independently before they add a book to the class reading challenge.

Primary 3 – Pod Time!

This afternoon we had some pod time! We were so happy to find that there were lots of new items for us to play with!

We built lots of shelters and invented new games we could play. We focused on team work today. It was important for us to  try to work together and share.

Eva also earned some special bubble time for working hard with Miss Cummings!

Primary 3 – Scottish Poems!

We have been working hard in our literacy lessons to understand Scottish language.

We have looked at some Scottish poems and discussed the meaning of the tricky Scottish words, verse by verse, before  Primary 3 were given the choice of 4 poems to learn for our Scottish poem competition. They had to choose one poem to learn and recite to the class.

Together we decided that it was important to talk loud and clear, be able to look at our audience and even use expression in our voices!

This is what we are looking for when we are peer assessing each other. It’s been a tough job for Primary 3 but everyone has tried so hard so far! Fantastic effort boys and girls!

Keep practicing your chosen poem with a grown up at home, we’re looking forward to hearing some more of these this week!

Primary 3 – Talking and Listening!

Primary 3 have lots of amazing things they like to share with the class! This term we are practicing how to talk in front of an audience and listen respectfully in turn! Last week we were treated to a show of awards, a violin performance and some exciting news stories.
We are getting much more confident at sharing our news with the class and talking in-front of others.

Keep practicing your Scottish Poems, we are looking forward to hearing them this week!

Primary 3 – Chinese Lantern Festival!

Primary 3 have been learning all about China!
Last week we learned  lots about the Chinese Lantern Festival which happens on the final day of the Chinese New Year celebration (Day 15)! We found out that people in China visit the lantern festival to enjoy the amazing lantern display which often has lanterns shaped like the animal of the Chinese Zodiac from that year! This year is the year of the rat.

Last week we made our own lanterns, we worked so hard to shade these with pastels making sure our patterns were symmetrical. Look how hard we worked…

We also found out about the Lantern Riddle Game. This is when riddles are attached to the lanterns for both children and adults to guess. If the riddles are guessed correctly the person who solves it would win a prize.  Primary 3 were able to guess the answer to 2/4 Chinese Riddles! Great job!
