Sumdog contest

Well done P3. I know you enjoyed taking part in the Dundee Sumdog contest , whilst practising your maths skills.

Congratulations to Holly and Leon who had the highest percentage of correct answers and to Lana, for the number of questions  you completed !

P3 finished in 50th place out of 106 classes- Well done!!

Discovering the Discovery!

What fun we had today !

We learned so much which added to our class learning on Antarctica and the link to Dundee with RRS Discovery.

We listened carefully ….

.

We learned about the crow’s nest….it really is very high up!! The original one is now below deck and we got a chance to have a close up look.

The lights/windows are in a very strange place. Can you remember their name?

It must have been very tricky walking on deck, with snow, ice, sheep and huskies about plus these hazards!

Now, how do you steer a ship? Third time lucky!

Imagine spending 4 hours a day moving ballast. We couldn’t even manage to lift one piece!!

100 years ago Antarctic explorers wore very different clothes to explorers today. The clothes were worn over the scientist’s suits!! They were very itchy and smelled a little like sheep!

Nowadays the clothes keep explorers so warm that the layers were shared between 2 children to make sure they didn’t overheat!

We had an opportunity to try on the clothes. Can you work out which clothes belong to 1901 and which are worn in 2018?

After lunch we visited the exhibition and went on a treasure hunt to find items associated with Antarctica.

Goodness, a  penguin is as tall as some of us!

And finally two P3 explorers reached “the South Pole!”

Fit Thursday

What an active day we have had!

We played a game where we had to guess a number . Our friends jumped up and down if the number was higher than our guess and crouched down if it was lower.

Our next game involved clapping to the beat of a tune. When the music stopped we had to pick up the pom pom ball before our partner did.

!

Could we balance on the “tightrope” in the class. Which body parts could we use?

Could we write our name in the air using different body parts? Have you tried writing with your elbow?

We played tig as a warm – up for football.

We played head shoulders knees toes… touch football……

We all like to dance.

We even had time for table tennis, bowls, a walk and a game of Simon Says!
