More farming fun!

This Mum and her calf wandered over to the fence to see us.

The tractor wheel is taller than us!!

We couldn’t wait to meet the chickens!!

We were able to stroke one of them. When we collected the eggs they were very warm!

A GREAT DAY WAS HAD BY ALL AND WE LEARNED SO MUCH!

Real hands-on learning

The day of our visit finally arrived… and the sun shone!

We saw vegetables growing and listened to Rosemary telling us all about them.

We watched Rosemary unwrap the sweetcorn and found it hidden under many layers. It looked different from the sweetcorn we used in our salads.

It was very warm in the polytunnel. We saw peppers, chilis and tomatoes growing. We learned that tomatoes change colour from green to yellow or orange to red.

Rosemary showed us the trailer she uses to transport her sheep. We must be bigger than sheep as 22 children fitted in easily, yet Rosemary can only fit 15 sheep in there.

We know the difference between hay and straw too.

It was quite a muddy journey to find the sheep! It was worth it to feel how soft they are and to feed them. We had to be quiet though!

Shape detectives

We have been learning about properties of shapes- faces, edges and corners. This week we identified and  counted edges and corners.

We know that when 2 faces meet we find an edge.

We know that when 2 edges meet we find a corner.

For homework we are looking for 3D shapes at home and counting the faces, edges and corners on them.

From farm to fork

We  had great fun making our salad.

We chatted about which vegetables had grown above ground, and which grew below ground. We discussed the difference between a regular onion and a spring onion, we loved making the pea pod go pop!

The best part though was the tasting…… lots of us discovered new foods to enjoy, cress, radishes or spring onions.
