In one of our independent literacy tasks we have been trying to use the Kapla to represent our sounds! Look at some of these fab examples, can you guess the sounds we were forming?
Number order and ways to show 1
As part of our numeracy learning today we were focusing on the number 1 and it’s place in the number system. We enjoyed the short programme ‘Counting with Rodd’ and even managed to do our giant ‘All about number’ workbook. Through play we ordered numbers to ten and then hunted for numicon and mini glitter numbers in the water and sand. We then matched and sorted what we found into the rings beside the large wooden numerals. We found lots of tiny little number 1’s. We were also part of a number talk in our small groups. We loved finding only 1 thing from anywhere in the classroom to slide down the long tube and show our friends. We found lots of different things but they were all still just 1! In the ‘story of one’ we did lots of actions like clapping, hopping, jumping and even squeaking like a mouse. It was tricky to remember to do just 1.
P1 and their Big Buddies
Thank you to P7’s teacher Mrs Paton for blogging this for us.
1st Buddy Library Visit
To end our first full day at school we walked down to visit our local library with our Buddies. The next time we go (in a few weeks) we might be lucky enough to visit the brand new building! Whilst there we learned a little about using our ‘little library voices’ and chose a story for our buddies to read to us. There were lots of books to choose from!
Buddy Numeracy
Whilst at ‘Play in a Pod’ we saved a little time to show our big buddies some of our numeracy learning and numicon games. We are learning to build our numicon number lines and to spot the missing tile! We can even remember the magic trick to pack the little boxes properly by matching up the special friends who add together to make 10 from opposite ends of the number line! Ask us to see if we can remember!!!
Surprise show for us with the biggest book we have EVER seen!
First School Lunch
Before our first full day at school, we had the opportunity to visit the dining hall with our grown ups from home to try out the meals on offer. We learned to be independent- carried our own trays to the table we wanted to sit at and tried some new foods. We even tidied up our own things once we had finished! Looking forward to full days at school next week!
Fine Motor – Loom Band Jobs
We are working hard on our fine motor skills so as we can do lovely writing. Here we are working together to stretch out the little loom bands onto different items such as sticks, rocks, pine cones and cardboard shapes. We worked in pairs to share resources and to make the most colourful rainbow stick we could in 5 minutes, it was lots of fun!
St Ninian’s – our school is like a big family
We have been settling so well into P1. We know that just like our family home, who love and care for us, our school family are there to keep us safe and help us to grow and learn. We have been sharing a little bit about our wonderful families at home with our class by creating our big family tree display. Thank you to our grown ups for sending in these lovely photos. Our tree is still growing each day as more snaps come in!
We remember our ‘Minnie Manners’
The story ‘Minnie the Monkey’ helped us to share our ideas about how we can all work together to learn and play safely in Primary 1. We learned about the words respect and kindness and how we can show these to everyone through our words and actions. We have settled on 4 things to try to do each day…
Respect my right to play, learn, be safe and be heard!
We made this little monkey for the wall to help us to remember these.
