We are learning about our senses and focussed on touch earlier this week in a number of fun play to learn tasks including a mystery object game, an independent ‘textures to touch’ picture which our teacher asked us to explain later and got the opportunity to play in a range of different messy mediums such as spaghetti, icey water, lentils, gloop and mixed playdough! It was a busy learning time but lots of fun too!

P1- Shapes are everywhere!
We have been learning all about 2d shapes. We were shape detectives and went out on a shape hunt, sorted and drew our own shapes, made shape families and our own creative shape pictures. We have been learning the names and properties of lots of different shapes and used the computers to help apply our learning in a new way. Next we will learn a little about shapes which are not flat, but instead have 3 dimensions.
P1- Our First Whole School Show
We have had a busy but rewarding week being part of the school Christmas show starring as the stable animals. Look how amazing we look in our costumes…
P1- Day and Night Sky
We are learning about the wonder of the sky and to show our understanding of things we might see in the sky both in the day and the night, we created these lovely oil pastel and paint pictures. We made sure we put each element on the correct side of our artwork and shared things that were similar and different.
P1- Creating our Christmas Tree
We got messy and had lots of fun using paint, gallons of glitter and teamwork to create a Christmas tree for our classroom. We can’t wait to get decorating it with the resources on our ‘decoration station’.
P1- Representing characters through art
We cant wait to see all of our grown ups next week to help us to cast our votes for the Picture Book Prize 2020 through Bookbug and Scottish Book Trust.
Here we are working in groups to create collage characters which will form part of our display. We tried hard to notice colours, textures and space and worked so well together in this tricky and sticky job!
P1- Adding colour to the world
As part of our learning about colour, we read the book ‘The Colour Thief’ about an alien who is so miserable living on his planet where everything is grey, so flies to earth to steal all of the vibrant colours to take home with him.
We created this lovely colourful display using colour mixing techniques with paints, oil pastels to create our favourite colour balloons and some collage work to represent planet earth. We loved sharing why we love our favourite colour so much with everyone. Here are some examples…
”I love green like the grass, plants and dinosaurs”
”I love red like strawberries, hearts and fire engines”
”I love blue like the sky, the ocean and sharks”
”I love pink like cotton candy and milkshakes”
P1- Monsters Love Colour
We combined literacy (rhyme) and art to explore colour mixing using the story Monsters Love Colours. We discovered that from the 3 primary colours we could make many more colours including orange, green and purple.

We also discovered that mixing black and white together makes grey. The more white we added made the grey colour created get lighter and lighter! But more black made it darker in shade.
Messy fun, cooperation and lots of learning!
P1- Firework Fun!
As part of our learning about festivals and celebrations around this time of year, we learned a little about Bonfire Night, how to stay safe and used our art skills to create wonderful firework pictures and sparklers to take home. We loved blowing the paint to make different patterns and shapes and playing with our ‘fire-free sparklers!’
P1-Kodaly- learning to use our voices as instruments
Mr McLean will be visiting us in P1 every Tuesday this term to help us to learn about rhythm and how to use our voices as a tool to communicate through song. We loved our first session and are looking forward to next time already !
