We have been working hard to learn some of our very first sounds. Here we are even trying to blend together or ‘squeeze up’ these sound to read a whole word! Luckily Fred the frog was there to help us and we did a great job! When we weren’t working with our teacher, we were trying to represent some of our sounds using different things, like the Kapla (wooden blocks) shown in the photo. Libby made a fantastic 3D ‘m’ and turned it into a garage for some cars and Emily even made her whole name!
Today, as part of our number learning we learned to play a counting game with the little teddy bears. We had our own 10s frame and had to turn over a number card to find out how many teddy bears we had to count onto our frame. To make it a little more tricky and way more fun, we had to collect each little bear using tweezers!
We love outdoor learning at our school and even get to come to school in our outdoor play clothes every Friday! Here are some photos of us during our first time at Play in a Pod, where we have a vast range of large and small loose parts to get creative and let our imaginations run wild. Our big P7 buddies came along to help us. We had great fun and created everything from a boat to a cafe.
We are learning to work and play independently, in pairs and small groups. Here we are working on a sounds game, playing numicon bingo, trying some fine motor tasks and getting creative with our loose parts station all in one school day…busy and happy learners!

Ruairi and Libby both turned 5 and we enjoyed singing and celebrating with them.
We will be using play as a vehicle for learning throughout this year! Take a look at our classroom layout at the beginning of this term and we will share with you how we change it over time to suit our play and learning needs. We hope you love it as much as we do!
