This term we have been learning about Scotland and Miss Thomson surprised us with some Scottish foods. We eat stovies, oatcakes and shortbread. It was delicious!

This term we have been exploring different areas of Scottish culture. After looking at some examples of tartan and learning about its origin, Miss Gordon let us design our own family tartan! We used miniature cars to create the straight lines by driving them across our paper. It was lots of fun and very messy!!

In numeracy we are learning about money and this week we enjoyed having the chance to explore different coins, discuss what we use money for and try to use our knowledge of adding to find different totals to match the piggy bank. We really enjoyed this and worked very hard!

In our ICT time we have been developing our mouse control skills and learning about the different parts of the computer. With the help of our buddies, we played some fun games linked to adding. We had the choice of teddy bear cupcake or gingerbread man button adding and we worked through each level of the games!

We did our Daily 15 outside and the boys and girls had great fun! On our way back to class the P6s asked if we would like to join them for some Play in a Pod fun. After a quick class vote, we said yes!

P1 have spent the last few weeks learning some Scottish Dancing routines. They have been practicing the Flying Scotsman, Canadian Barn Dance and The Military Two Step.

After their initial horror at having to dance with a boy or girl, everyone got right into the swing of things. We have some natural dancers within Primary 1!

Every week P1 spend some time ‘reading for pleasure’. They love getting the chance to choose a book from our class library in small groups or pairs.

They work hard imagining what the story could be about and search for the sounds we already know to sound out new words.

The boys and girls are really enjoying their music sessions with Mr McLean and this week they were introduced to a new song about soup. Everyone got the chance to add a fruit or vegetable to our winter soup and there were lots of strange and funny ingredients added to the recipe! This was great fun and they were all joining in with the singing.

We finished off the session with a game of sleeping bunnies. We can’t wait for Mr McLean to come back next week!

P1 have been busy learning about time and it has been lots of fun!

First, we learned about the different time periods of the day – morning, afternoon, evening and night. Everyone in the class acted out different activities that they do during these times for Miss Gordon.

We also looked at the numbers on a clock and now know that the number 12 means it’s an o’clock time.

We love being challenged so please ask me what the time is on the hour!

Every Monday P1 get the chance to visit the iClass and explore new areas of play. They love getting the opportunity to imagine and create new scenarios in the different areas. Here are some pictures of them having fun!
