P1 love going to the iClass and dressing up! After reading the book ‘Dressing Up Dad’, we got the chance to dress up and pretend to be just like the dad in the Story. It was lots of fun!

P1 and P6 read ‘Ruby’s Worry’ together and spoke about what worries them. P1 were very responsible and spoke through what worries them but also what they could do to solve their worries. Well done P1!

This term we have continued to learn all about subtraction and we have been learning how to write our own addition number sentences. We are doing very well with this and have been using lots of different fun activities during our numeracy time.

P1 and P7 took part in a 3D shape hunt! It was lots of fun and we found lots of shapes outside.

We then continued with learning all about shapes and had lots of fun using twigs and play dough to make our own shapes! The boys and girls worked really well with this task and were able to build 3d shapes too! Well done!

We have started with our second topic of this term, Space and we read a story called Back to Earth with a Bump! During our class literacy time we worked in co-operative learning groups to make our own story map and we each had a job to do in our group.  Everyone worked very well to carry out our jobs. We are looking forward to doing more special jobs in our groups!

We have started to learn how to balance and hold our bodies in different shapes on the floor and on apparatus. It was very tricky to move along the benches and not fall but we all managed!

When chatting about our new topic, the children have been discussing the size of the sun, moon and stars and that they all look so tiny.  We did an experiment outside to show that as things get further away, they appear smaller, which is why the sun, moon and stars look so small.  We used two pieces of card and checked at the beginning of the experiment that they were exactly the same size. Rome then walked further and further away from Oli and we noticed that the piece of card Rome was holding appeared much smaller!

You may have noticed your child already coming home with one of our new and exciting RWI ‘bookbag’ books (and if not, they soon will be!) These books directly link to the RWI phonics storybook your child is working on in school and are specially designed for a family environment to promote and encourage reading for enjoyment and build understanding and speed when reading independently.  The short video above has some information for parents about these new books.  However, if you have any questions regarding these, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Our children deserve the best!  As a school we have invested quite a sum of money into ensuring all children love to read both at school and at home and these books will help with this.  We ask for your support in ensuring they are enjoyed, shared but also returned to school by the specified day (your child will know when this is).  The books will be given to children in a nice new plastic wallet to help keep our lovely new reading material looking fabulous!   Enjoy reading them together as a family!

Miss Thompson

This term we are learning all about 2D and 3D shapes. We started off this week with exploring the shapes, making sure we knew the names and the features of them. Then we worked in partners to play ‘Guess the Shape’ – the shapes were hidden in a feely bag and we took it in turns to describe a shape in the bag to our partner and they had to work out which shape it was, it was great fun! We have also been using our fine motor skills to cut, stick and draw the different shapes.

Here we are making the most of the lovely weather on Friday, we took chalk outside and wrote our sounds/numbers and drew some pictures.  We also used the outdoor equipment to practise our balancing and co-ordination, this was quite tricky on some of the equipment!
